Reports of "Significant Progress" Towards CBA

Our scout.com sources at the NFL combine have informed WarpathInsiders.com that there have been signs of progress towards a new collective bargaining agreement.

Members of one NFL organization are telling their staff that there is a very strong chance that the CBA will be extended by the deadline. Significant recent progress has been made, according to our source.

Another NFL source has told Scout.com that the 2006 salary cap will be announced on Monday, February 27. 2006's cap, according to this source, will be $95 million. This is on the high end of what was expected - most estimates were anywhere from $92 to $95 million.

I just saw this in an AP article

On Friday, Upshaw told agents to begin negotiating contracts as if a new deal was not imminent.

Washington Redskins coach Joe Gibbs said Saturday he remained optimistic the start of free agency could still be delayed a couple of weeks -

I thought with a new CBA...the cap would be 110 million? Whats the motive in announcing 95 million if the new CBA is coming out for 110 million?

The 06 cap will be between 92-95 million if its extended or not. The 07 cap will be 110 million.

Heckert said the Eagles probably won't be pursuing big-name free agents during the offseason, mainly because there isn't expected to be much high-end quality in the areas the Eagles need help. Expect them to wait until the first wave of high-priced free agents are gone and then go bargain hunting for functional players who won't be looking for massive deals.

According to who? Upshaw said it would be between $102-104 million this year if a new deal were reached:

Todd Archer, of the Dallas Morning News, reports NFLPA executive director Gene Upshaw revealed what he thinks the salary cap will be for the 2006 season. Upshaw believes the salary cap will rise to between $102 million and $104 million if a new collective bargaining agreement is reached. He feels the cap will be between $92 million and $95 million without a new agreement.
