WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY

Joe Jurevicius

Seahawks

Browns?

Patriots?

Homecoming for Jurevicius?

<Feb. 24> Jurevicius told The Plain Dealer he would consider heading home to Cleveland if the Browns made an attempt to sign him as a free agent.

"But everything is out of my hands. It's a matter of do the teams want me and am I the type of player that fits into their system?" he told the paper.

The Seahawks are believed to be interested in re-sign Jurevicius, and the Patriots are also considered a possible suitor. A "character" player with size (6-foot-5, 240 pounds) and sure hands, Jurevicius fits the Patriots mold. In fact, the Patriots considered signing Jurevicius as a free agent in 2002 before settling on Donald Hayes.

The 31-year-old Jurevicius, who will become an unrestricted free agent on March 3, enjoyed a career season in 2005 (55 catches, 10 touchdowns). Every team he's played for (Giants, Tampa Bay and Seattle) has reached the Super Bowl.

It would be great to have him here IMO, Oldskool, but I think the cliche' du jour here is "taken out of context." In the original article he also refers to the possibility as "wierder things have happened" and even the original article reads like an obvious spin-for-local-interest based on some generic interview comments by a player. Not to say he was insincere, he'll play somewhere obviously.

They brush quickly over isolated comment that his agent's been talking to Seattle when, as I've been saying for awhile, it's been made open by the 'hawk FO that he's wanted back since before the season ended, and he and his family love the area. The one thing that is a wild card now however, and can play into most all possible deals is the CBA situation.

So anything is possible. And I assume his agent is trying to milk every dollar he can from a good year. Out of all the guys talked about, he'd be one of those at the top of my list, but I doubt we'll see it.

He's not a great number 2 reciever, hes a great number 3 but he would be an alright 2 with all the weapons on offense we have

He was a 2WR most of the year when Seattle's 1 and 2 guys were hurt. Much of that time, he was the go-to. He'll be fine as a 2WR for us if we can't get somebody out of the KC pool who is already familliar with Saunders' offense. We're not looking for the long term fix right now. Best bet is to get a good vet at that position who can train up a draft pick over the next year. then we'll have a guy with a year's experience coming as the 2WR to Santana, and will be able to get several years out of that combination.
