You wish they would have hired Topher Grace to play Spider-Man? I dunno about that, if anything Tobey Maguire is a pretty dead on Peter Parker. I think either Tobey or Jake Gyllenhaal (who almost did take over the role for the 2nd movie when Tobey hurt his back) are just about perfect for the role. To be honest I have zero idea how Topher Grace is gonna work out as Venom, unless he's on steroids and packs on about 80 pounds of muscle and dies his hair blonde, then sure. Awesome picture though, some definite foreshadowing of the symbiote coming into play. It's been an awfully long weekend away for me already (which is why I'm replying to this topic a day after the fact) but this pretty much made my day.

If handled properly, I think Venom and the whole symbiote story could be the best storyline ever put to film in a superhero movie.

The original Venom story in the comics was great. I remember counting the days till the next issue came out. Venom was the anti-Spidey. Same powers plus his added body builder strength, didn't set off Spidey's senses, and the symbiote knew Spidey intimately from his time as his costume. All the elements of a great character were there.

Then the 90's saw the oversaturation and whoring out of the symbiote theme and Venom's character became a ridiculous caricature of himself. Sad, really.

Hopefully the movie handles Venom the right way.

I saw this fan made trailer for Spidey 3 and Venom looks incredible in it.

I've been longing to see Venom on film since the first movie, especially with the way computer graphics have advanced in recent years I thought he could surely be one of the best comic book villains in all comic movies and probably pretty terrifying. I thought one way they could've introduced him was in the last movie, with John Jameson coming back from the moon and being a minor character, they could've had a minor scene where someone mentions some mysterious black thing on a rock he brought back that was being examined, then at the end of the movie show a scene of a containment chamber or something similiar open or broken, just to hint at the origins of the symbiote and foreshadow it a little bit. The fanboys would instantly get it and mainstream audience members would just assume it was a key plot point for the future, kind of like showing the reflection of the Pheonix in the water at the end of X2. An interesting note about Venom is that Sam Raimi has gone on record several times as saying he would never feature Venom as a villain in the movies, because he's such a fan of the old-school Spider-man lore rather than any of the newer generations of stuff.

Black Uni is a great idea, but I hope they stay true to its design in the comics (with the big white Spider emblem and no webbing).

As for Venom--- if Topher Grace is any Villian it should be Venom, I mean he looks just like Mcguire so there could be a great storyline how Spiderman is doing some horrific things to Villains and innocents and come to find out it's Venom.

I'm hoping we'd might see the Hobgoblin or Green Goblin in this one as well after the ending in SM 2 (where Harry finds Norman's Secret Stash)

Oh, yeah-- Bruce Campbell 3rd cameo is a necessity as well.

So far Rami has done a brilliant job with the great characters that make up the Spider-Man universe.......gotta believe he'll do it again.

BTW-- I know Rami has said things like "NO Venom", but I just don't see Grace playing anybody else. I do see Thomas Haden Church as either Electro, Mysterio or the Scorpion.

Plus, Sony is being very hush, hush on who the villians are going to be in this movie, gotta think if the CG turns out well......Venom is the Big Bad in this one.

Church has been confirmed as Sandman. With the picture of Spidey in the black costume, you can assume that Venom is indeed in SM3 as Kirsten Dunst had previously blurted out. Word is that GG2 will also be in it. SM2's ending was a little too obvious for that not to be the case.

Another thing that will certainly throw a monkey wrench into this franchise is how they're just now introducing Gwen Stacy, played by Bryce Dallas Howard:

I've heard rumors that they may be trying to write out Kirsten Dunst from the franchise, which I know would be total blasphemy to get rid of Mary Jane for a character who died early in Spider-Man lore, but supposedly Kirsten is just a huge pain to work with for these movies.

Tobey is not funny at all. He's made about 3 jokes in both of these movies. That's why I would have wanted Topher, because he's really funny guy.

Also they are more then likely basing Venom off of Ultimate Spider-Man. Eddie was a normal sized guy but the symbiote makes him bigger. And he has died his hair blonde for the movie.

The black uni looks great. I just hope the third one's better than the last two. I don't know but I was dissappointed with them after all the hype they got. I've been a huge spiderman fan since I was little and they just didn't live up to expectations. Just my opinion.

Yeah but Tobey can actually pull off dramatic acting, something anyone has yet to see out of Topher. Did you see any of "In Good Company" or "Win a Date With Tad Hamilton," he excels at doing awkward self-deprecating comedy (which is pretty much his shtick in "That 70's Show"), and that seems to be about the only thing he's proven so far. Spider-Man isn't awkward in his humor, he's sarcastic. It's not like they've written Spider-Man to be really witty anyway, in fact they've made him out to be too serious almost all the time, especially in the first movie. Bottom line though- Tobey had proven his acting chops by the time they cast him in the role, Topher still has yet to prove anything. Concerning Topher playing Venom though, as skeptical as I am, Sam Raimi seems to know what he wants to craft these movies and the end results are amazingly entertaining, so I'm still on the edge of my seat for the first trailer or promotional pictures. If any miscasting took place though, it was with Kirsten Dunst playing Mary Jane, considering she's not hot at all, she's not a great actor, and she's proven to be a thorn in the side of the producers, which is why there's speculation of writing her out of the franchise, atleast for a little bit.

What's the Ultimate Spiderman story of Venom?

Ultimate Spider-Man has the Venom arc in issues #33-39, heres a quick synopsis, the comic is alot better. But Ultimate Eddie is alot like Foreman from That 70's Show except he's not funny and doesn't try to have sex with minors. So I think they could pull it off. They probaly will change some of this to fit into this movie universe, but it's basically Peter and Eddie use to be friends when they were younger. Their fathers were scientist (sp?), who were working on a cure for cancer. They never got to finish it because their plane exploded (It could have been planned by their bosses). So years go by and they hook up again later, and Eddie's now and College and has the symbiote that their dad's were working on. Peter takes it when Eddie's not around and get's the black suit. It makes him go crazy so he goes back to the lab to get the rest to destroy it and Eddie doesn't want him to. But since he's Spider-Man, Eddie knows he can't stop him. Eddie has another sample of the suit stored in another place and uses it on himself and he becomes Venom. But the Ult. Venom needs to eat people to surivive because it's killing Eddie. Because the suit was made off of Peter's Dad DNA, so he's the only one who can control it. So they fight

What's the Ultimate Spiderman story of Venom?

Basically, since Ultimate Spider-Man deals with the Spider-Man universe as the main characters are all teens and still in high school, Eddie Brock and Peter are good friends at school, and their fathers work together on an organic protoplasmic suit which Eddie's father wanted to use for military purposes while Pete's father wanted to use for cancer treatment. Peter eventually finds himself attached to the suit and it increases his metabolism and makes him generally very very angry, so he destroys it only to later find out Eddie had made a second suit which he uses to try to take out Peter because he was mad about Peter basically destroying what Eddie saw as a future fortune, and thus Venom is born. I'd suggest reading up on the details of it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venom_(comics)

Mary Jane will probaly die at the end of this movie, because she more then likely won't sign on the the second triology. She's a A-Lister now, and doesn't want to known as the actor who played Mary Jane. I think she's done a great job with the script she's been given. Did anyone else cringe when Peter and MJ talk to each other (In the hospital during SM1, and in the backyard in SM2 and outside the theather). Gwen Stacey will probaly be the next love interest in the movies (Which would be a opposite from the comics, because Peter went to MJ after Gwen died, just like they hired a red head to play Gwen and a Blonde to play MJ)

Glad I've missed out on that. Sounds like 'The House of Ideas' had a brain fart.

Yea right.....Mcguire pulls off a perfect Peter Parker AND Spider-Man, they got the perfect person for the part

I think he's done a good job with the script he was given. But the Rami/Writers really don't know the characther that well. Which makes it look like Tobey isn't a great Spider-Man.
