hokie4redskins
****s hitting the fan. Glad the Vatican is speaking out against this unacceptable behavior though. http://reuters.myway.com/article/20060223/2006-02-23T175457Z_01_L2369100_RTRIDST_0_NEWS-RELIGION-VATICAN-MUSLIMS-DC.html PARIS (Reuters) - After backing calls by Muslims for respect for their religion in the Mohammad cartoons row, the Vatican is now urging Islamic countries to reciprocate by showing more tolerance toward their Christian minorities. Roman Catholic leaders at first said Muslims were right to be outraged when Western newspapers reprinted Danish caricatures of the Prophet, including one with a bomb in his turban. Most Muslims consider any images of Mohammad to be blasphemous. After criticizing both the cartoons and the violent protests in Muslim countries that followed, the Vatican this week linked the issue to its long-standing concern that the rights of other faiths are limited, sometimes severely, in Muslim countries. Vatican prelates have been concerned by recent killings of two Catholic priests in Turkey and Nigeria. Turkish media linked the death there to the cartoons row. At least 146 Christians and Muslims have died in five days of religious riots in Nigeria. Click link for more.
DCsportsfan53
The Vatican telling people to practice what they preach?!? Anyone ever heard that saying about the pot calling the kettle black?

SkinsHokieFan
I have no problem with this. All people of the book are to be respected, and it would be nice if Muslims in the middle east practiced this concept repeated in the Quran

hokie4redskins
Dude, you're putting words in people's mouths and you know it. Nobody respects child molestors, ok? The "eye of the beholder" comment was in response to saying "practice what you preach" wasn't very smart. How you connect that to anybody being pro-molestor is beyond me. That's your issue. Even Christ had one (apostle) priest who betrayed him. The media will tell you all about that one bad one, but won't say squat about the other 11 doing Christ's work. And stick to the topic at hand. If you want to talk about how crappy the Catholic Church is, start a new thread and I'll put you in your place over there.
TimmySmith
Bunch of idiots in this forum are reacting to a newspaper headline. The Vatican didn't say "practice what you preach" it said "if you want tolerance from others you must be tolerant toward others".

Xameil
Hey, Hokie4Redskins, did you hear that the one apostle that they think betrayed Jesus, may actually have not betrayed him, but was doing what he did on Jesus' orders?

Destino
from the article: "If we tell our people they have no right to offend, we have to tell the others they have no right to destroy us," Cardinal Angelo Sodano, the Vatican's Secretary of State (prime minister), told journalists in Rome."We must always stress our demand for reciprocity in political contacts with authorities in Islamic countries and, even more, in cultural contacts," Foreign Minister Archbishop Giovanni Lajolo told the daily Corriere della Sera. Reciprocity -- allowing Christian minorities the same rights as Muslims generally have in Western countries, such as building houses of worship or practicing religion freely -- is at the heart of Vatican diplomacy toward Muslim states. Imagine that! Demanding the same respect they demand from us. It's about damn time the Vatican started saying this.
