Adding my biological fathers's last name to the front of my own. Really got speared forward by my last visit with my older brother who shares the same last name but didn't want that role in my life, giving me the compliment of saying I didn't need one at this point. I'm going to give my kids my dad's last name instead of the one I had, and the hypenated one I have now feels like what it was already: a combo of both that wouldn't matter if it was neither. At least that's what my dad and I agreed to call it, love is a little bigger then that. I wish someone had done this for me before my degrees had different names on them, but it's whatever, it feels uniquely me and my girlfriend wants it, too. Best thing I could say is that he never hit us? Anyway, His name is my middle name but after college I stopped using it. I haven't made the change official. Yet? Putting my mom's ex-husband's name as my emergency contact for my passport because my birth certificate hadn't been updated was final straw for me. I have to go to Richmond for that. Can totally get what you're doing, did you have family members comment about how you used your name? I had people on both my parents sides asking when it was going to be done, shoulda been done or what it should be, then say it doesn't matter.
