How can Health Care be Fixed?

Fred Jones

Recommended Posts

I was watching Fox News today and they were talking about the cost of health care and how it is going to increase tremendously in the next 10 years.

How is the country going to fix the cost of health care? How are we going to keep the cost of health care down and why does it cost so much?

I hope its fixed during my lifetime b/c its dragging a lot of big companies (like mine, Verizon) have already started cutting pensions. its a trend that will likely continue to other Fortune 50 companies till its industry standard. people really need to start planning their own retirements now, or else the system will really crash

We're getting to the point we can't afford to spend every cent we can to keep someone alive as long as we can.

If someone gets a big ole tumor in their brain, maybe we shouldn't spend thousands and thousands of dollars keeping them alive for another 6 months. It's cruel but there's a point where we all can't afford to spend like this.

When people are spending one or two thousand dollars a month out of their own pockets, they'll start realizing this.

We will have no choice but to have a universal system. This is a large part of why companies are outsourcing or hitting serious financial struggles. I heard GM spends more on health care than they do on actual parts for cars. This could be untrue but what I do know is that they are spending nearly $6 billion this year on healthcare.

Just like it did in Canada, right?

You cant compare the two.

I think National Health Care CAN work in some countries, I just dont think it can in ours. I dont think Americans will be willing to accept the realities of the system.

-Higher taxes

-Longer waits

-Lesser service

-Pay for physicians

I might be wrong. In fact I hope Im wrong. But I AM convinced we will have it in the future.

The taxes are really the only problem America will have to worry about. The waits won't really be affected, in fact, I've read things that state waits are actually worse without universal health care. As far as service goes, it's funny, all the industrialized countries that have universal health care are actually rated higher than us overall.

The only true way to do it, preventative care

Unfourtantley we have a fat and lazy America laced with obesity and diabetes and heart problems which is clogging our health care system and costs

I have never understood this line of thinking. You really think it costs more for someone to die of lung cancer at age 66 than it does to pay for them to live in a retirement home for 20 years and THEN die of some other form of cancer at age 86?

Maybe the insurance companies could stop covering every miracle drug that's out in the market.

Just because you are "sad" doesn't mean you have a mental problem and need to pop 6 pills each day.

Another thing that bothers me is some of the stupid laws. For example, VA is once again debating the motorcycle helmet law. Last year it was two votes shy of getting rid of the law.

Well, people that get in accidents that don't have their helmet on spend more time in the ER and cost more money to fix. These people burn through their insurance and then the tax payers pick up the tab. Don't spend my money on your stupidity.

If you are fit and healthy you won't end up in a retirement home

I know several fit and healthy people living normal lives in their 80s, albeit a little slower then we do, because they took care of themselves their entire life
