Well, I was thinking of putting up a poll but I think I want to get a bunch of quality nominees first. So here it is, just put who you think is among the cream of the crop in present-day Hollywood (early-mid 90's to present). Of course you have some obvious ones to make a case for: Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorcese and Ang Lee to name a few.... :feedback:

Is Ron Howard too old? If so, how about Jon Favreau?

I was going to say Ron Howard, A beautiful mind, Cinderella Man, etc

Guy Ritchie had some really good ones with Snatch and Lock, stock, and two smoking barrels. but he's been fading as of late (really sucks about that corvette commercial, I thought it was awesome)

Scorcese's best movies were before the era you're talking about.

My candidates would be Spielberg and Tarantino. Aronofsky could be up there if the Fountain is as great as Pi and Requiem. A couple more dark horses are Paul Thomas Anderson and Wes Anderson.

Overall, I'd have to say Spielberg, but that's just because Tarantino's types of movies don't vary as much, Aronofsky hasn't done enough, PTA's movies can drag, and Wes Anderson is just a comedic director.

There's Bryan Singer...and then it doesn't matter.

Although Christopher Nolan & Peter Jackson got a nod.

Singer did the Usual Suspects, and since then (other than Apt Pupil), all he's really done is X-Men. Nolan hasn't really done enough, I mean, Memento was good, so was Insomnia, but overall, Nolan and Singer's bodies of work are too skimpy, just like PTA and Aronofsky.

and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil I enjoyed by Clint....slow but Cusack does good work....Spacey too.

ugh.. I saw the movie and it was one of the few times I just couldn't finish a movie. I kept losing interest and getting bored, thinking about other things.

Then someone told me to read the book. I argued with them and told them how terrible the movie was, etc... but they convinced me. Wow... what a read. Great book.

So then I thought I'd rent the movie again because obviously there was something wrong with me the first go-round. Guess what? I shut the movie off halfway again.

On a side note, I had no idea Clint Eastwood directed that movie. learn something new!

I didn't like the movie, either. I read the book before I ever saw the movie, though.

I'm a big Curtis Hanson fan of late. LA Confidential was a masterpiece. Wonder Boys was great. 8 Mile better than it had any right to be. And In Her Shoes was a solid chick flick. Very few directors can make a good movie in one genre, much less several different genres.
