never liked the guy as he pushed to the role of leader and never had what it took to be part of a winner we will be much better if we get rid of him, this has always been my documented view i questioned it on this site way before any of his more recent troubles (one of my first posts was questioning him as a plus or minus for this team)

I dont think he ever pushed to be a leader on this team, I think that his high draft status and natural ability pushed outsiders to try and make him into a leader. I think that Lavar is best when he has solid leadership to look to, not when others are looking to him for leadership. I think Lavar not playing for half of last season helped him because it took the focus off of him as far as the defensive scheme goes and I think when he got back into the lineup he enjoyed playing the game within the confines of what the coaches asked him to do. As he proves himself to be a willing pupil (he still has some proving to do granted), I think that this coaching staff will start to ask more and more of him on the field.

Lavar's role on any team will not be as a "leader" because it doesnt quite suit his personality. When the team is winning and he can be a key cog in the machine, Lavar tends to shine and that's when we see his true ability. Take the pressure off of him to be the best player week in and week out and he will be the best player week in and week out (if that makes sense).

I know he gets paid a mint, but the guy has been a soldier for us through lean years and I think its time he gets a chance to contribute to a team that plays together and wins games.

You cant force someone to be something they arent and Lavar just isnt a natural leader. BUT, he is a dominant player when he's on the field and I think he will show that this season for 16 games if given the chance.

Plus, I just love the guy. I never want to see him play anywhere else!!

In a sense it would be sad because we all had such high hopes for Lavar.

The reality is he's never lived up to his potential, and he's never been the player we all had envisioned him to be.

In fact, we've seen the past two years, the defense perform better with him on the sidelines.

My disappointment would moreso be in the loss of a "dream" than that of the actually player.

Looking back, I realize how foolish it was to label him the next LT. Never even close.

Lavar and the redskins go together like wine and cheese, the fans love him, so what if he get frustrated and shoots his mouth off, he is no TO clone. I think that if the redskins traded him the QBs for the gurls, iggles and gnats would be able to sleep at night, he needs to stay and we need to keep him.

For the record, the defense was much better when he became a regular starter over Holdman, who got run over more times in that Broncos game than Lavar has in his whole career.

Heck yeah. Lavar is a good player. Watch, this year he will come back and will wow people. Lavar is a REDSKIN! I can not imagine him anywhere else, nor would I want to. He needs to stay here, he needs to retire here.

While I don't think he is the weakest link, I do think it is time he and the Skins part ways. There has been too much adversity surrounding Lavar over the past year and a half and the Redskins defense has proven it can succeed without him. It would definitely be a good thing to start removing that massive contract from the Redskins cap (I realize there won't be relief this year, but a bunch in coming years). Even at his best, he wasn't worth what he is scheduled to make.

I wouldn't like it, but if it has to happen then it has to happen. He clearly isn't the same player he once was, and he needs to get back in that shape and really show that he can be a leader and force on the field. The old Lavar would have returned that INT against Tampa in the playoffs for a TD, let's hope he gets back into that shape

Give him a chance. He should be 100% this year. I believe that it typically takes 2 years to fully recover from those knee injuries. Besides, I just got an autographed 56 for Christmas this year!!

Lavar didn't tear his ACL. The injury he had to his knee usually takes around 2-4 WEEKS to recover from not 2 years to fully recover. LINK

Here is an article where is notes that Lavar himself said he was 100% healthy. LINK I realize that he got hurt later in the year, but that had nothing to do with his knee injury.

From interviews it seems he still wants to be a Redskin, although at certain times this year I wasn't so sure. Restructuring his contract with incentives is not out of the question. He has the talent to be a major factor in the league. My concern is that the team lets him go and he has a completely dynamic year somewhere else. Just when things are getting good here! I would like to see things work out.

Could it be that the instability in the organization has played

a significant part in Arrington not reaching his potential?

I don't know. All I know is that our two best defensive coordinators while he's been with the team, Marvin Lewis and Greg Lewis, both had issues with him and didn't like him.

Thats very telling, in my book.

. . . and Brunell said he was healthy all last year too, yet we can look at last year's games compared to this past season's games - the number's don't lie. As for Arrington, or any other player who is coming off of an injury like that, they usually all feel like they are 100% healthy before they really are. Granted his original injury (meniscus tear) usually takes about a month to recover from - was reinjured (not sure if it was torn though). You can't nccessarily just tack on another month for recovery. Often times reinjuring yourself can quadrouple the amount of time it really takes to heal. And the bottom line is he was despaerate to get back on the field. There was a lot of guessing as to how long it would take to get healthy, on his part and the organization's part - everyone's body reacts differently to injuries.

He spent the majority of the offseason focusing on rehabbing, but without being able to fully train he lost some of his football shape, IMO of course. Personally I think he will blow it up this year if he stays - Marcus W. is our emotional leader, Lemar Marshal is the defnesive QB - and I hope that LaVar is the wrecking ball we all know he can be. Hail to em. :helmet:
