Daanie
USATODAY reports that it will be Brees and not Rivers that will be heading out of SD. There were rumors of a trade between SD and NYJ between Rivers and Abraham. The Jets may now turn to Washington for a trade for Ramsey. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/chargers/2006-02-20-brees-future_x.htm
Lil Kenzo
Why wouldn't the Jets just sign whoever was released by the bolts???
The Batman
Why wouldn't the Jets just sign whoever was released by the bolts??? Two words: bum shoulder. The Jets already have that market cornered; why do they need another? And seriously, I don't think people realize just how dire Brees' injury is. He may never be able to throw a ball again, let alone with any accuracy or velocity. :logo:

kevinklein
Wow, wouldn't have thought. $10 says Brees comes back to haunt the Chargers somehow this year.

Number5
Wow, wouldn't have thought. $10 says Brees comes back to haunt the Chargers somehow this year. I'll take that $10 and raise it to $25!
Oldskool
If he recovers from the labrum surgery and is back to normal, he's one of the top 10 QB's in the league. Thats a big if. However you have a QB with an unknown ability in Rivers.. This is lose/lose for the Bolts.
ntotoro
I'll take that $10 and raise it to $25! So would I. The only way Brees could haunt the Chargers, at this point, would be if he started for them. Watching Pennington gives you a pretty good indication of how a bum shoulder can and does affect your game.
@DCGoldPants
Brees will go somewhere where the starting job will he his. Jets, Miami..... Not a Dallas or Cincy where the start is old or hurt also. He doesn't want to look over his shoulder anymore.

Watching Pennington gives you a pretty good indication of how a bum shoulder can and does affect your game. Pennington and Brees are completely different injuries. Brees had a torn labrum. And it wasn't like a chronic problem with tendonitis as an overlay. It was a one time traumatic injury. Phil Simms had one and this is what he said about it... "I do not think it's a big long-term worry (for Brees)," he said. "I think he'll overcome it, and I think he'll be 100 percent by the time they go to training camp next year." Brees is going to be fine, and he'll come on the cheap for some team if SD doesn't franchise him.

In the 1 year tender that he signed last year he had a stipulation that he wouldnt be franchised again in 2006 (ala Shawn Alexander's situation). Watching Pennington gives you a pretty good indication of how a bum shoulder can and does affect your game. Brees puts up two pretty good seasons and suddenly he's a bad player? Yeah a bum shoulder can affect your game, but no one knows if it's Pennington is an extreme example. There is no telling if this will happen to Brees or not. San Diego better hope Rivers is as good as they think he is or that Brees really does fail to recover.....or else they've made a massive error.
