Where is Fla WR Chad Jackson projected to go?

Strengths:

Has excellent size...Is an outstanding natural athlete...Has very good speed and quickness...Is explosive with a burst...Runs well after the catch and in the open field...Has solid and reliable hands...Runs good routes...An excellent leaper...Not afraid to work the middle of the field...Can be a vertical threat...A weapon in the red zone...Has not yet reached his full potential and still has a lot of upside.

Weaknesses:

Didn't really emerge as a top threat until just this past season...Basically only has one year of starting experience...Needs to get stronger...Is not very physical or aggressive...Can improve as a blocker...Was not a major deep threat as a junior...For the most part the recent top Gator wide receiver prospects (Travis Taylor, Reidel Anthony, Reche Caldwell, Jabar Gaffney, etc.) have disappointed.

Notes:

Was an elite recruit coming out of the high school ranks...Saw his yards per catch average drop from 22.3 in 2004 to 10.2 in 2005 but that was mainly a product of Urban Meyer's offense and keep in mind that he caught more balls (29 in '04 to 88 in '05) and touchdowns (6 to 9) as a junior...A well-rounded and talented prospect who possesses all the physical tools you look for in a #1 NFL wide receiver.

This link has him as a first rounder, if that's the case we won't get him.

I would definately take him if he is on the board when we pick. he has the size we had with gardner, but with great hands. he is the ideal pick for us in my eyes, but his stock has been steady rising, so i see him being taken off the board in the early to mid 2nd round.

OK, everyone repeat after me, now: "No More Florida Wide Receivers - Ever"! Or Michigan WR's. This is pure superstition on my part, based on the poor NFL track records of WR's from these schools. Actually, the odds of any drafted WR working out in the NFL don't appear to be very good. I suspect we'd be better off with a FA WR.

well he just won every category on the senior challenge on ESPN. Hands, route running, speed...but apparently that doesnt matter much to anyone on here,....holding grudges means more.

Its not a grudge my friend. Do you know the history of Fla recievers in the NFL? They never pan out. How is that a grudge? Has nothing to do with Spurrier.

That's the University of Florida All-Time NFL Roster. There are two notable receivers that caught my eye: Ike Hilliard and Cris Collinsworth

I know we don't have good luck with Florida receivers, nor does anyone else, but this kid looks pretty good on paper. I've never seen him in action.

He will be a BUST like crazy, he will pop like a balloon. He averaged 22 yards per catch in some other dudes system then when Coach Meyers guy came over i think his average went down to like 13 yards per catch.

Greg Lee, Martin Nance, Jason Avant, Mike Hass or Sinorice Moss would be better.

Martin Nance WR 6’5 210 Miami(OH)

By: Robert Davis

When people started to take notice of Ben Roethlisberger his junior year, people had no choice but to notice Big Ben’s top target, sophomore Martin Nance. He absolutely exploded onto the college football map that year with 90 catches for 1,498 yards and 11 touchdowns. As a junior, he was off to another fast start. In the first four games of the 2004 season, Nance had 25 catches for 337 yards, and a touchdown. On the first play of the 5th game that season however, Nance injured his knee and missed the rest of the season.

Martin Nance is a flat out playmaker. At 6’5, with great athleticism, and jumping ability, he is nearly unstoppable in one on one situations. He’s not just big though, he has very good straight-line speed. He can get deep, and won’t be caught if he gets a step on you. Some people questioned if his success in 2003 was due to Roethlisberger, but he showed early on in 2004, and has shown again this year that he is a talent.

Even though he is showing he is back from the knee injury in 2004, it is something teams will look into. Even though the MAC has gained some respect nationally, it still is not the most talented conference out there. With just over two years of experience on the field, he has not faced the most talented corners in college. Nance fits the mold of the big, tall, athletic receiver teams have become enamored with lately. He has all the talent to be a star at the next level. With no true superstar at wide receiver, Nance could really move up in the post season. With his size and natural athletic gifts, he could end up being the first wideout selected in April.

Don't sell Chad Jackson short. These current Florida receivers are not your run of the mill Steve Spurrier doomed-to-fail-in-the-NFL guys. He was as hard a worker as there was under Urban Meyer and will do what it takes to get better. I have a feeling he will do very well in the NFL. Averaging 13 yards per catch in Urban Meyer's sytem is nothing to sneeze at. It shows he can be a possession receiver as well as a deep threat.

I have the skins drafting Martin Nance in the 3rd round, but he is not available Flowers from Neveda or one or maybe two of the 3 auburn wideout especially Anthony Mix

I caught part of that earlier today. Guy has hands of glue. I don't think he dropped a single ball during that competition with the four jug machines. Although Sinorce was competing with an injured hand/finger. However Jackson still caught somewhere around 10+ balls more then Moss. Kinda looked like what 50/50 should have been.

I might be mistaken, but isn't Darrell Jackson from Florida? He has panned out pretty well.

My two cents on Chad Jackson, I would jump at the chance to get him, but I am pretty sure he will be gone by the time we pick. Granted, most Florida receivers do not pan out, but I think he is different than most. I have seen him play a lot and it is not the system with him, he is more skilled than a lot of guys that have come through there.

Yes he was. Chad Jackson was a great receiver at UF with really great hands. I'd love to have him, but to be honest, I thought Jacobs would have panned out better. I pin probably 75% of that on him and 25% on Mr. Lock On My Primary Receiver.

You certainly can't say he's a product of Spurrier's system, because obviously he wasn't there. Unfortunately the past history of Gator receivers works against him.

Personally I'd be against drafting any receiver for the #2 slot. I'd rather have a known quantity.

Yeah but none of that matters because of the school he attended

The guy is chiseled and strong, in contrast to the thin/fragile receivers used under Spurrier, and has stickum-covered hands. He actually reminded me a lot like Chad Johnson, as ironic as that is. I just don't understand how people can look so far past a players talent simply becuase he goes to a certain school. I'm not saying he is going to be a probowler in the NFL because we don't know but to automatically write any player off because of the school they go to doesn't make sense to me.

Pass on every Florida receiver regardless of how they play. I can't wait to see what people say in 3-4 years if Percy Harvin turns out as he is expected to. Wonder if it will still be "never touch a Florida receiver"
