For Metallica Fans- New Album News

>>Spearhead>>

Recommended Posts

Released today on the band's website is the announcement that Rick Rubin(Beastie Boys, Black Crowes, Def Jam, etc) is producing the next Metallica album!

No mention of post-Justice producer Bob Rock(Bon Jovi, The Cult) at all.

Many feel that once Rock came on as producer the sell out of the band was complete. Truth is the band, well,- Lars, brought him in to polish up the bands sound to reach the masses, whatever your thoughts are-that mission was accomplished.

What expectations do you fans have with Rubin behind the sound? Few can argue that the production on St Anger was prehistoric sounding, maybe Bob 'Top 40' Rock had issue with this, leading to the change....?

I have been a fan for almost 20 years, but I don't know quite what to take of this move. I have resigned myself to just look forward to seeing them live instead of having much faith in new material.

Nothing shakes the foundations like live Metallica

'Hyptnotizing power, crushing all that cower....Battery is here to stay!!'

Rick Rubin could help inspire an older Metallica edge.

I'm actually really interested in hearing the new stuff. Everything that I have read leads to the new album being inspired by those that were inspired by them.......Meshuggah. Meaning Meshuggah's new stuff (Nothing, I, Catch 33). If you haven't heard them yet, do yourself a favor and give them a whirl. They started off with heavy Metallica influences in Destroy Erase Improve and Contradictions Collapse/None and evolved into some of the most talented musicians to date. If what I've read is true and Metallica is being influenced by Nothing and Catch 33, the album should be pretty special.........that is if Lars can pull off what Thomas Haake is capable of.

I haven't heard any Meshuggah in a looong time- but I will spin it after reading this - I hope someone actually attempts to sing the lyrics, though.

Can't be worse than St. Anger, which was for the most part (Frantic and St. Anger.....maybe considered decent songs but not really on Metallica's legendary level) an absolute horrible album.......dreadful is being nice about St. Anger.

The funny thing is despite St. Anger sucking more than a porn star, I saw the band at Summer Sanitarium with Bizcuit, Linkin Park, Deftones and Mudvanye a few years back and they dominated the night playing most of the songs from 'Puppets, Ride the Lightning, Kill 'em All and Justice.....and they still are Metallica.

Hopefully, they can sound like they used to and not St. Anger.....ugghhhhhhh

Metallica has been dead to me for over 15 years now. If they actually come out and make a THRASH METAL record again, I won't refuse to listen to it or anything, but hey they said all the same hub bub about St. Anger and my gawd that was awful. Give me Slayer over Metallica anyday.

I'm going to predict that won't help, Metalica will still suck with Rick Rubin.

I guess I should try to actually make it a bold prediction. How's this? Rick Rubin will produce the worst Metalica to date.

I would say that this would be extremely difficult, but then they've gone and surprised me with every album since Metallica came out.

I think bringing in Rubin is a great idea. For those who don't know, he also produces System of a Down. I think that Rock is a great producer, but Metallica kept him too long. He should have been let go after Re-Load. I have a feeling that Metallica is really trying hard to get back to their roots. First with St. Anger, and now with Rubin being brought in. As a pretty big fan of the band, I hope they get it right.

I do have some Metallica in my ass. But then, I discard it into the stool. And I am just POSITIVE that you never look at threads that you know you won't like. You Cool
