New Godsmack track....

Godsmack is probably my favorite of the new generation of rock and metal bands. I dig the new track a lot. Hopefully, the rest of the album sounds as good. I thought Faceless was probably their best album up until this point. "Straight out of Line" just kicks ass. I never tire of listening to that song. \m/

Eh, can't say I like it.

...and just as I was going to say it wasn't anything like I described, the end of the song comes and he starts with the yeeeeaaaaahhhhs and the grunts of "speak" and the song is about speaking the truth (not lying but close enough, lol).

I was pretty much dead on the money without even listening.

I saw them at a small show in Philly, and let me tell you, I've seen Metallica numerous times and Godsmack blew them away. The opened with Vampires, green smoke, then they had clips of old horror movies and then they came out and jammed. Also, they did a 2 drum set little cover a bunch of old songs, some Doors, Led Zep and some others. You have to see them in concert. I also have the Live DVD and it's pretty bad ass.

Their website is pretty cool too, www.godsmack.com

Love it. Can't wait to get the CD. Wife and I saw them open up for Metallica at the Pepsi last year. RonB&G, dude, don't hate man, you don't like them that's cool but don't come in the thread just to trash them. Not everybody likes the same kind of music. I have heard a lot of talk on here about Mars Volta, I think they suck but a lot of people on here love them, you don't see me going to the threads to trash them.

I didn't come in just to hate.

I actually listened to the song and gave it a fair chance.

Don't be mad that my prediction of what the song would sound like was damn near totally correct.

...and for the record, I don't hate Godsmack. They were entertaining when the few times I've seen them with the Deftones and at the HFStival. I just think once you've heard one album you've heard the rest of them.

Godsmack is really just a kind of lame Alice in Chains ripoff band - like Creed rips off Pearl Jam....not terrible, but just because its not as awful as most of rock radio doesn't mean it's actually good. Try Porcupine Tree, Devin Townsend/SYL, or Opeth if you think you can handle quality/non-corporate approved hard rock or metal...or hold your breath for that sure-to-be-lame Bush reunion album.

I've seen Godsmack live, they're really badass. I'm not a fan of their studio stuff or the entire post-grunge/nu-metal genre in general, but they put on a hell of a show, at a festival, no less. A really sweet drum solo by the drummer, then a really sweet drum solo by the vocalist. Very cool.

I don't really dig the song though; sounds very... typical.

Alice in Chains? I don't know what I'm listening to then because I don't hear them at all.

Their first album, Sulley spent a bulk of the record trying to emulate Layne Staley. He's gotten better about it since then but it's still music that's heavily influenced by AiC. Why do you think they called the band Godsmack?

Never really thought about why they called themselves Godsmack. I guess I didn't hear the AiC because all I ever heard from them was what was on the air, Rooster, Down in a Hole, Them Bones, Man in the Box. I don't think they sound anything like GS but that's just me. We all hear different things. Maybe I'll have to go back listen to Dirt and Godsmack again

A friend of mine put it best: "It's like they took I Stay Away and used that as a blueprint for the entire album".

Now don't get me wrong, I don't hate their music but it's not exactly original. They are a decent straight forward rock band, which is fine, but they aren't going to inspire anyone. They have talent, I won't deny that.

At least they aren't Earshot, who blatantly ripped off Tool but have zero musical talent to pull it off.
