WP - Upshaw, no deal no union

How can this work?

You enter into a business arrangement, spend a ton of money to acquire a team, and then someone fargs with your revenue stream by forcing you to share with other teams?

It's not right. It's not fair practice.

It is fair practice because Danny Snyder relies on the health of the other 31 teams to push his product. His goal is not to run the other teams out of business.

For the league to thrive - as it has - all 32 teams need to have a chance to succeed, which under the current system, they do.

Upshaw is posturing, I think. There are like three owners who are stingy with salaries - Bidwell and McCombs (who is now gone) come to mind.

Shared revenue, the Salary Cap and competitive balance are what make the NFL what it is. If he wants to turn the sport into Major League Baseball, he is a fool.

It's fair practice because Snyder was made aware of such things before he purchased the team.. However what sucks is now the greedy owners in the smaller markets what's the money Snyder makes off tee shirts and parking. That's just greedy. You got a bunch of old fart piss ant owners thinking, "Well they gave us a little profit sharing, I wonder if we can get it all?"

Not to make their teams better mind you, but to line their own pockets. We've had a CBA for years now and look at teams like Arizon, N.O, Cleveland. Perennial losers, because their owners are too cheap to field decent teams. Yet Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder are forced to share profits with people who have zero intention of improving their product.

If the NFL gives each team 100M dollars, then surely that aleviates any sharing responsibility to the teams, the skins i think make about 360M dollars per year from merchandise etc, so why should teams who put in the effort support those that dont, In another thread I noted that sun devil stadium was about half full the day the skins played there, while fedex is never less than about 95%, Mr Snyder has in effect improved the businessablity of the skins, and he is congratulated by having to hand over some of the money to teams like the Lions who wouldnt pay an extra $500,000 to employ coach Martz, the skins have a good team now because Mr Snyder spent a lot of money wisely both in players and coaches, let the stong survive let the weak wither, someone will want to buy the licence and produce a strong team.

Perhaps the Redskins will be a team that will attract the best players in the offseason not only for Gibbs, but for Snyder...Champ will be begging to come back, as will Antonio Pierce, but we shall tell them thanks, but no thanks.

i dont know about champ coming back but i wouldnt mind having pierce back. then we could switch a 3-4 defense with marshall, arrington, washington, and pierce. that would be nasty

Don't forget that many of the owners have fattened themselves at the public trough as well. They get taxpayers to, in essence, build them a venue for their betterment.

To go cheap in that situation is pathetic.

Exactly! Jerrah got the city of Dallas to build him a stadium to show off his

team.

Dano owns his stadium and has the added expense of maintaining it. Snyder has NEVER been cheap when it comes to his team or the fans. He built an escalator, etc...........ad nausium in HIS stadium for our fans creature comforts.

I believe in the tenet of working within the "system", but whatever happened to free enterprise?

Socialism & communism are a sore spot with me. I believe in hard work and paying your dues. If you have worked hard, studied hard and have earned a degree, why should you have to share your hard earned money with a don't wannabe, never care attitude?

I can't stand the NFL SalCap. How can Philly go to the SB while still 20M under the cap? That's parity???????????NO, that's smart.

Let the smaller market teams learn how Philly did it, then move on. That's called Management

Oh, I almost forgot. Two of the smaller market teams are playing in Super Bowl XL this Sunday

Oh well, so much for the parity theory! It's a freakin' joke. Let it be gone

"You have to take Dan Snyder out," Upshaw said. "He's completely different. He's got a high-revenue club, and he spends money on his players. We like that. There are high-revenue clubs who are spending less than $66 million on their players, and that's out of $300 million. That's not a fair share."

No, Philly has a pretty high payroll also, it may seem that they are cheap but there payroll is something like 2nd to ours.

The owners in Philly support Snyder and Jones objections to sharing revenue because they have a pretty good thing going now with the new staduim and selling a boatload of Jerseys.

You have to remember that the NFL gives each club 100 million each year of the shared revenue to run thier clubs.

Some clubs do not try to grow thier markets while others (Snyder, Jones, Kraft) truly run it as a business. Why should the smart business people pay for the ones that are doing nothing?

How high could Philly's payroll be, considering that as of Nov. 2005 they were 12.6 million under the cap. The most of any team in the league. Second was Houston at 7.8 million with Arizona third at 6.4 million.
