I remember as if it was yesterday, John Madden and Pat Summerall doing a game and saying Art monk is without a doubt a HOF player. Saying just how great he really is and what he means to the Redskins....

I then remember trading a Jerome Walton (Cubs) rookie card for Arts rookie card... i think i got the best of that one :point2sky

I'm not saying Art is not a HOF player..he is no doubt..He should have been inducted a long time ago..What i meant was he didn't get the attention he deserved compared to Marino, Young, Aikman and others.

The announcer analogy is a bad one to use. Those guys were locks into the hall of fame.I do think that Joe Theismann will help his candidacy by becoming the monday night guy on ESPN.

I cant believe King, Z, and Banks are allowed to work. It should be decided like the pro bowl. Among former coaches and current coaches in the league. Not by some bias sports writers.

Art Monk was plenty well known, he just didnt run his mouth like a lot of the Marquee recievers in the NFL have been known for (Micheal Irvin)

If he would have been a bigger self promoter like all the player turned announcers were then hed have a better chance, I respect him alot for his workman like attitude just getting him job done and not being a media whore, its just the commercialised society we live in that gives no credit to people with any humility

Does anyone remember when Dan Fouts was hired as a football commentator? He is probably the best example I can think of if he was a Commentator before his induction in the HOF in 1993.

When he retired from football he was one of 3 or so QBs who threw for over 40,000+ yds. But he NEVER went to a Super Bowl. But almost everyone, even young college students who weren't even alive when Fouts was a player in the NFL know who he is.

Monk of course has 3 Super Bowl Rings, and was the standard for recievers until the likes of Rice and so on. But only true Redskins faithful in the younger generation know who he is.

Of course if Fouts didn't start doing Commentary until after '93 my theory is shot to bits:silly:

Yea i was kinda just making a joke. Im just sayin monk was as great as anyone else in the HOF. But out of all seriousness, monk better make it over irvin. Irvin is a criminal. Sure he says he's all clean now, but u can;t let ppl like him in the HOF for the fact that he's a criminal and a drug addict.

Monk was VERY well known... He was the EPITOME of a prototypical WR in the league during his tenure...
