Post's take on Spurrier's offense.

Recommended Posts

Before training camp, the NFL polled its coaches on the most underrated aspect of football. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Coach Jon Gruden mentioned offseason conditioning. Spurrier's predecessor, San Diego Chargers Coach Marty Schottenheimer, chose special teams.

Spurrier: "Touchdown passes."

I love this guy! Damn, I can't wait for Sunday!

How can anyone credibly say that special teams is underrated? Special Teams being underrated is so cliche.

I've been watching football for 30 years and I don't think there has been one game I've watched where the announcers haven't droned on about how important special teams are and how much time Coach X spends on them.

I would agree there are coaches that don't spend enough time on practicing special teams (hello, Norv?). But I doubt that anyone would say that poor special teams play is irrelevant to the outcome of a football game.

BTW, how often do guys get drafted because of their (projected) special teams ability?
