smartestmaninamerica
Lately when we blitz, we just blitz and they have been picking it up. Yesterday we ran a delayed blitz and it was an excellent sack. The announcers were saying that it was actually a blown blitz that actually just looked like a delay. Regardless, we need that play more often.
ntotoro
The one delayed blitz by (I think) Stoutmire was a broken Defensive play. We got away with it because he got there just in time. Edit: Maybe it was Prileaou. I can't remember.
smartestmaninamerica
Yes and he was unobstructed to the passer. I hope Williams notices that on the film and puts it in. THAT is a fumble-causer.
Pourdanesh
Yeah it was a broken play ... I usually cringe at the delayed blitz, b/c not only are you pulling a man out of the 2ndary, but you're giving the qb extra time to find the open man ... but that's why GW is GW and I'm just Pourdanesh HAIL
kappaluvacee
Actually, the TV announcer called it incorrectly. That was not a delay blitz. Stoutmire was 15 yards away, that’s why it took so long to get to the QB. A true delayed blitz involves timing and deception. They are usually executed by LB's or pressing corners. scskin
Walt Harris was supposed to drop back to the deep middle. Stoutmire was yelling to Harris before the blitz but evidently there was a miscommunication.

Cskin
Scskin is right.... it was a blown coverage because Harris didn't fullfill his assignment, which was to fade into the zone in the center of the field. Fortunately, the coverage Simms was looking at was to his left... giving Stoutmire time to come from the right untouched. My only wish is that Stoutmire would have hit him hard enough to knock the ball loose.
