W. Unseld
I'm currently refuting all of the a-holes who said the Skins were "the worst 3-0 team in the history of the NFL" and I'm trying to find a way to show that there have been plenty of 3-0 NFL teams that did not make the playoffs. Califan007 The Constipated
There was actually an article connected to one of the "Power Poll" weekly rankings a few months back that addressed this very thing...the writer was trying to explain why the Skins starting off 3-0 was no big deal because their margin of victory was so small (2 pts, 1 pt and 3 pts in overtime). History had shown that the majority of 3-0 teams that won by such slender margins rarely made it to the playoffs, and the article was basically saying "That's why the 3-0 Skins are ranked so low, and why they are the worst 3-0 team in the history of the NFL"...etc, yadda, blah blah blah... fight_on_til_you_have_won
Since 2000, there have been 10 teams to start at least 3-0 and not make the playoffs. A staggering six teams pulled this off in 2002. 2004: Jacksonville started 3-0, finished 9-7. 2003: Minnesota started 6-0, finished 9-7. 2002: New England started 3-0, finished 9-7; Miami started 3-0, finished 9-7; Denver started 3-0, finished 9-7; San Diego started 4-0, finished 8-8; New Orleans started 3-0, finished 9-7; Carolina started 3-0, finished 7-9. 2001: San Diego started 3-0, finished 5-11. 2000: NY Jets started 4-0, finished 9-7.
