Way to go Mrs. Portis... that feels almost as good as your son scoring the go ahead TD.

In Philly, Mama Said Knock You Out

Tuesday, January 3, 2006; Page E05

Clinton Portis took a beating in Sunday's victory over Philadelphia. Apparently, his mother dished one out.

In the fourth quarter, Portis's mother, Rhonnel Hearn, was sitting in the end zone at Lincoln Financial Field with Portis's stepfather and some friends when an Eagles fan apparently tossed a beer on the group. Portis's mother responded by punching the woman in the face, Portis said.

That's classic.

After the game Clinton was ranting about the horse collar tackles he repeatedly has to endure without a single flag. To paraphrase: "If they ain't gonna throw the flag, I'm gonna just have to get up and start kicking people."

Outstanding stuff...

sounds funny but she could be up on assault and battery. the fan that threw the drink was guilty of assault (and maybe battery if the cup actually hit his mom); however, it would be hard to prove 'self-defense' by Portis' mom since she could have left the scene without responding. by striking the woman, she actually made the situation worse. anybody who has ever been arrested after a bar fight knows how this game goes. even if the other guy hits you first, if you hit back when you could have left the scene safely instead, you can be brought up on charges.

now that is the criminal side. there is also the civil side. don't be surprised to see a lawsuit on this one since Portis has money.

I'm not trying to be a downer, but this could happen, especially since she admitted what happened in the press.

philly isnt bad, thier fans are weak! they just act obnoxious because ESPN and everyone else boasts about how tough they are so they try to keep the shoe fitting. they are no more obnoxious than our fans (in the upper level).

besides, right now in philly there are no eagles fans, they disown any team that loses anything, kinda funny considering they havent won anything. in fact, philly is the last city with the 4 major sports teams to win anything. its all talk up there, they arent proud enough to do anything.

bottom line, unless your life and well-being are threatened and you cannot escape without fighting, NEVER EVER FIGHT IN PUBLIC. If you lose, you get beat up and plastic surgery is expensive. If you win, the police assume you started it since you won (this is how they think, believe me) and you are up on assault and battery. God help you if the person you are fighting falls on a sharp object and dies - then you are up on murder or at least manslaughter and it is prison time.

if someone wants to fight you in public what is the best thing to do? I know it hurts your pride but it is best to walk away (or run if you have to). how many people have been shot by someone waiting outside a bar for them after they lost a fight?

bummer, but them's the facts.

Having had been harassed before this and being surrounded by cheering/jeering fans of the Eagles. AND the reputation that the stadium has over the years..

It would seem to be a tough case to win that a legal-civil assault/battery "hit-back" would equal money.
