Rock: Opinions?

Watched the game yesterday at the stadium, and recorded the TV (but haven't watched the tape, yet). I was impressed with Rock.

Seemed, in the previous games, the only time I saw him was when he was dropping a pass, or failing to block some guy who'd made it through our line.

But last night, I saw some good runs, and some good blocks.

The fact that he was playing in the first Q makes me think he's made the team. (Or, at least, is being considered). (Is it significant that Betts didn't play until the second half, and didn't look so good then?)

I'm wondering (perhaps fantasizing would be a better word, looking this far in the future), if Davis winds up leaving (Don't want it to happen, but in the unfortunate event), anybody see a problem with the main "back" for a team (say, in the FnG) being called the FB? If he can pound it up the middle sometimes, and pick up blockers the rest of the time, isn't that the main reason he's there?

I really think the Rock is an excellent prospect in a single back formation with multiple receivers for this offense. He's compact, thick, fast and quick. Get him in a seam against a secondary man and he'll break some big runs. I didn't see whether he improved his blocking last night, but with how bad Johnson looks doing it, I don't know that Johnson should be starting right now.

What is the deal with Johnson? A few weeks ago, he was an up-and-coming prospect that Spurrier was talking about finding ways to get involved in the offense.

Now, he's MIA. I hardly ever see him out there.

Has he fallen from grace?

Rock really caught the ball well. Looks to be a dangerous weapon out of the backfield. Hard for a D to keep track of, then sudenly he's got the ball and banging into the secondary. I think the ballcoach has big plans for him. I plan on watching his blocking better when I watch the replay.

Does kind of make you wonder Sonny J. Take what Art said, agreed, and add that to Rock's peformance last night, (and actually good perfomance in all 4 preseason games), and it does make one go hmmmmmmm. Rock beating out Johnson maybe?

Oh and Larry, careful on Rock threads, Texas fellow and all.

Mad Mike thats for sure

Johnsons are known for using protection instead of providing it

So while Johnson may have impressed early and received raves with hitting the hole hard and quick, it appears that he may have petered out and isnt able to recover enough to gain confidence in his fans to fill it.

HOW DID I MISS THIS THREAD??!!!!

As many of you heard last night, on the radio I had to give him his props.

Y'all know there isn't a bigger Rock fan than I am. Well, maybe his mama. Anyway, from the beginning I have said Rock would impress the fans and the coaches. There have been some "nay-sayers" but I truly believe in his talent and abilities. I have watched him for many years...he should not only make this team, he should be a consistant contributor on the offense and special teams.

Now, NavyDave.....tisk.....tisk......tisk.....that is sooooooooo soooooo bad.

Yeah, Tex, I was wondering where you were.

I was also wondering: Late in the game, Rock went in in a Skins kigking team (FG or PAT, I don't remember). Mostly I remember wondering why he'd be on such a team. (Other than "He's a rookie, and rookies go in when they're told).

I noticed he seemed to be limping when he came off, and was still limping at the end of the game, when the teams left.
