You know in all of this there seems to have been a forgotten factor. The grievance settlement. If I remember correctly it was heavily incentive based, and a large portion of that was based on games played etc. So the Skins simply don't let Lavar play and they don't have to pay him the settlement money. Lavar's not happy about this for reasons that should be obvious. There is also a stipulation that gives more settlement money based on the probowl. It's possible that the reason we have not seen Lavar as a blitzer and generally not played to his strengths is because they wanted to make sure he had no shot at getting a suprise probowl nod like Trotter did last year. The fact that the settlement was so biased towards the Skins tells me that the Postons had no proof of any wrongdoing by the skins. I think management just wanted this to be over and took the shorter way out. they knew this could be a distraction and also knew they would most likely part ways with Arrington after this season, so the settlement offered them an easy way out. Sorry, but I don't think the organization was purposely sitting Lavar so he wouldn't collect his bonuses. I believe the coaching staff when they said Lavar wasn't ready to play. Now, the deal could have been made with the knowledge that Lavar might not fulfill those incentives due to his injury, but that's on Lavar, and obviously he felt that it was a good bet on his part. Regardless of how much the Postons tried to duck responsibility for their mistake, it was/is still incumbent on Arrington to understand where the blame lay and govern himself accordingly. He'd have made a lot more headway (and compensation) by filing a claim against his agents for malpractice. Now I'm not a lawyer and I didn't sleep at a HoJo last night, but I'd suspect that once his attorney reviewed the case, he/she would have seen a fairly open and shut case of malpractice in LaVar's favor. Thus, the problem could have been addressed and settled such that he actually got $$$ instead of some incentives added to his existing contract-and more importantly done so in a way that preserved his relationship with the team. Instead, he chose to overlook the fact that even if the team was intentionally trying to put one over on him, his agents still bore the ultimate responsibility to protect his interests. You won't hear me defend Snyderatto and Co. much but this is a case where, LaVar and LaVar alone is responsible for the change in his standing within the organization. I like the guy a lot and hope there's some way this can be resolved so that we don't have to go looking for a replacement for him in the offseason. Worse, I'd hate to see him go because it would make me look silly for going against my policy of buying jerseys of current players;) However, the fact remains that as Eddie Murphy said, "You brought that shyte on yo-self" LaVar. Whereas Terrell Owens is consistently controversial but also consistently among the league leaders at his position, Arrington for the past 2 years has been simply controversial off the field. He is no longer a 'must have' player for this defense. In fact he really hasn't been since 2001. Marvin Lewis used him as a third down specialist in 2002, refusing to consider him for the slot of full-time weakside linebacker.
