R. Kelly National Anthem

Did anyone see R. Kelly's version of the National Anthem at the Taylor-Hopkins fight? Oh my God. It can't get much worse then that. He tried to turn it into a hip-hop r&b song. And what was with the people ball-room dancing in the ring while he was "singing" it? I've been trying to find video of it on the net but I can't find anywhere. Maybe one of you knows somewhere to find it? You all have to see it.

Anybody seen Trapped in the Closet? It's hard to describe...and extended music video/opera I guess? Anyway, it's written and sung by R. Kelly and it's downright hilarious. The funniest and most absurd thing about it is that he takes it very seriously and believes he's created a treasure for the ages.

I think you can find it at Blockbuster.

Does anyone not think that it's wrong to turn our national anthem into a hip hop song?

Personally? No, it is the artist's expression. I absolutely loved Hendrix's version of the national anthem, and I bet there was a lot of people that hated that. I think it would be a bit hypocritical to say they should not try to encorporate their artistry into it, while in the same breath, when an artist that I like does the same thing, I think it is OK.

Alleged Sexual Indiscretions

The troubles following Kelly's alleged rapports with underage girls go as far back as 1991, when several young women had accused the singer of having sex with them. In 1994 and 1995, rumours surfaced that Kelly had married fellow singer, Aaliyah, which both Kelly and Aaliyah denied. However, none of the prior reports reached the level of publicity that followed the release of a video tape in February 2002 that allegedly showed Kelly and a 14-year-old daughter of an associate, and niece of a former Kelly protege, engaging in sex. The tape, released by an unknown source, was sent to the Chicago Sun Times, the newspaper that broke the story. While witnesses have identified Kelly and the girl, the alleged girl herself and her parents have denied that she is the person shown on the tape. Bootleg copies of the tape became widely available on the black market and hence via file sharing networks. The tape showed numerous sex acts, including the girl being urinated on. In June 2002, Kelly was indicted in Chicago for seven counts of soliciting a minor for child pornography, seven counts of videotaping the acts, and seven counts of producing child pornography[1]. Currently, Kelly is now facing only 14 of the charges.

In addition to those charges, Kelly was further indicted in Florida in January 2003 on twelve counts of possession of child pornography. However, the charges were dropped after the search that led to the indictment was ruled illegal. In 2003, Dave Chappelle made a skit showing R. Kelly pouring his urine and "Doo-Doo Butter" on teenage girls. Despite the apparent parody nature, R. Kelly himself was said to have been rather offended by the sketch. In 2004, allegations emerged that among Kelly's tapes was one including gospel singer Deleon Richards, who is also the wife of New York Yankees baseball player Gary Sheffield.

During the pornography controversy, Kelly's problems with the opposite sex carried over into his own family. His wife sought a restraining order against him on September 2, 2005 claiming he physically and verbally attacked her on two occasions but rescinded her request on September 26. Andrea had been a backup dancer before they married and is the mother of his son and two daughters. [2]

The above is the only problem I have with him singing it. It's not a 1 time issue.

Your rhythmic version of a patriotic song does not make it less patriotic: If you believe it.

wasn't there a videotape?

That's what I was thinking to.

Here is a nice timeline from rotten.com:

8 Jan 1969 Born as Robert Kelly, Chicago IL.

16 Jan 1979 Aaliyah Dana Haughton born, Brooklyn.

24 May 1994 Produces Aaliyah's first album, Age Ain't Nothing But A Number.

31 Aug 1994 Aaliyah and R Kelly secretly married at the Sheraton Gateway Suites, Rosemont, IL. Aaliyah never admitted being married, though Vibe published a copy of the marriage certificate. Unfortunately, she was only 15 at the time, so thus the marriage was later annulled.

25 Aug 2001 Aaliyah and eight others killed in a plane crash, Abaco Island, Bahamas.

29 Apr 2002 Patrice Jones, age 20, files suit against R. Kelly for alleged statutory rape (which allegedly occurred when she was allegedly 16) and for forcing her to have an abortion. The pair allegedly bumped uglies for nine months.

24 May 2002 R. Kelly arrested after indictment on 21 counts of child pornography, concerning a videotape showing him ****ing a fourteen year old girl.

5 Jun 2002 Montina "Tina" Woods, age 33, files suit against R. Kelly, claiming invasion of privacy after the singer allegedly recorded their ****ing on secret videotape. She seeks only $50,000, even though this alleged videotape is everywhere.

22 Jan 2003 R. Kelly arrested on charges of child pornography again, after a search of his rented apartment turns up digital pictures of him (allegedly) ****ing an underage girl. Is it the same underage girl as before?

So I guess you found no exception to Roseanne Barr's redition?
