bbuzz1962
Dude, did you actually watch the game Sunday? He could not catch a football with a freaking peach basket. How do you drop a perfect pass. He has no business on the field. Backup at best, but get him out of the starting line up. Are you a relative or something? He hasn't played a good game all year. Truant
I won't defend his play, but I'd like to see us support our players a little more than we do. Don't get me wrong, I was shouting every *%*$*### his way after his drops, but at least he cares about it. It's not like he wasn't TRYING. As long as a player cares and makes an effort, I think you have something to work with-- esp if that player has physical talent. I hope you get your head right Robert!! He's a bum. he didnt hear the audible and didnt know Mark had snapped the ball. You go out there and try to take his place then. I won't defend his play, but I'd like to see us support our players a little more than we do. It isn't like he didnt care, he wants to go out there and do his best. He just had a mental breakdown. He will bounce back, and from the Joe Gibbs daily monday interview on NBC 4, it doesnt appear like he is going to bench Robert, because he understands that these things happen. Peregrine
Royal has been awful this year. Royal has always been awful. Ive always called for his head because he makes a lot of stupid penalties. Combine that with not blocking, dropping passes, why the HECK do we keep him around? Im all for "If you practice well you play" but its time to realize some people can practice well and suck in games.
Die Hard
Royal has been awful for 3 friggin years now. You cannot bounce back from something you never were. Seriously, breakdown his production over the last 3 years.... and let me know which particular "catch" in a specific game led you to believe he can play at this level. Because God knows... he hasn't had a good "game". He gets 1 pass every 3 games.
RIDETHEWALRUS
or he will lose his job. I mean he hasnt been awfu; this year. It isnt like he always is dropping passes, and not blocking, etc. He has been consistent w/ blocking and usually making catches. He is more of a blocking TE, than a catching, versatile TE like antonio gates. Granted he misses blocks sometimes, and doesnt make every catch, every single time he is open. But who doesnt? No one is that good to do every thing right and not mess up at all in any game. He will have to get his act together, and find ways to start catching better, and being a more balanced TE, like Chris Cooley is in our offense. He is a big TE, and i think he has the potential to be a big tough blocking TE in our system that can make catches and scores, kinda like mike sellers . He was near tears in the locker room, according to the wash. post, and took the blame himself. So i think that he will fix those things and will be a better TE in this max protect system. Just give him time. No need to replace him with B Koz, b/c all Koz has over Royal is experience. The only thing Royal has done consistently is f--k up. If they want him for special teams fine but shy the f--- do they keep letting him run patterns? I know blind kids that can catch better. Honestly though, he doesn't usually make catches. He has 10 grabs on the year and 9 drops that I can think of off of the top of my head. And I don't care if he was near tears in the locker room, I was near tears at the bar. While he is getting paid to blow the season, I am paying to watch him sabatoge it.

He said it as if it was the only time Royal had a bad play and he said it as if it was only one play. He also said that he likes the way they are using him right now and implied that they may even try to get the ball to him more. Hmmm, interesting. (then again, he also said on the radio that Frost has been pretty consistently good all year, except for yesterday ;-)
Die Hard
(then again, he also said on the radio that Frost has been pretty consistently good all year, except for yesterday ;-) I love Gibbs. Through and through. But don't take Gibbs' words at face value. Gibbs is very complementary and loyal to his players. He's not going to publicly berate any of his players. If he needs to do something.... he'll make a roster change. Just like he did with Brunell/Ramsey. Antonio Brown. Listen to Gibbs... Rock is a leader. Sellers is a leader and one of his best players. Betts is one of his best players. James Thrash is perfect football player. Taylor Jacobs is the most talented receiver. etc. etc.

PcolaChuy
Or you could look at it this way. The guy gets paid to make certain plays. In these situations, so many I've lost track, he gets thrown the ball. He then watches the ball fall from his hands to the ground. Royal should not even be playing in a league where players get paid for doing a job. Some guys make mistakes, then rebound a play or two later, he reverts. If you want to make excuses for him, fine. But while making excuses think about what other TEs are doing to help their teams (Shockey, Gates, Gonzales, etc.)

Not bad for someone who only gets the ball once every 3 games.
skinzplay
I can't say too much about his abilities (or lack of them) when it comes to blocking because I haven't paid a great deal of attention to that facet of his game, but Royal has not been a player defined by consistently dropping passes or fumbling. Last year, he was one of the few bright spots in terms of finding the end zone, and was so the year before (or perhaps two years earlier; I know he was hurt at some point). Anyway, everybody is entitled to one bad game and I'm not about to blame Sunday's loss on him. That loss, my friends, rests on the shoulders of Zeus, himself - Joe Jackson Gibbs. That playcalling stunk the joint up! One of my students came in a few moments ago and mentioned that during the 4th quarter on Sunday (he was at the game), fans were venting their frustration with Gibbs by booing loudly, etc. Was this true? There was so much noise in the house (holiday guests, etc) that I couldn't hear the tv.

Not from where I was sitting. Fans were certainly booing Royal's drops, and the refs got a healthy dose also, but that was all.
