Let's take a little trip back to 4 seasons when Gibbs was coach the first time around...

1981 season...Skins started 0-5...went 8-3 down the stretch to finish 8-8. Skins won the Super Bowl the next season!

still don't believe?

1984 season...Skins started 5-4...went 6-1 down the stretch to finish 11-5 and won division.

still don't believe?

1985 season...Skins started....hmmmm...5-5...lost Joe Theisman to broken leg week 11...went 5-1 down the stretch to finsih 10-6...missed the playoffs becvause at this time there were only 2 wild cards. Skins won Super Bowl 2 years later!

still don't beleive?

1989 season...Skins started 5-6...went 5-0 down the stretch to finish 10-6...missed playoffs because only 2 wild cards at the time. Skins won Super Bowl 2 years later!

joe better keep the trend going

he has a caliber team rite now, and once we get these little things fixed in practice, this season will look like the 84' season or the 85' season, b/c we are 5-5, and were 5-4.

man this really hypes me up, and i really hope ole joe pulls through and we beat the chargers at home, and go on to the playoffs. I m so excited.

Go Joe!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Skins!!!!!!!!!!!!

These records don't matter for anything really.

You can say this happened then, and this is a trend for Gibbs teams, but this is more than a decade later....its clearly not the same Gibbs teams.

So No, it doesn't give me faith, only Wins give me faith. And we've only had 2 in the past five games.

Thanks Redskins4ever for posting those seasons in question.

Granted, what happened in the past, won't neccessarily determin what happens in the future...but Joe Gibbs is "The Face" of this franchise...I think he has EARNED the benefit of the doubt.

He builds Champions people! He builds Champions!

holy cow, the 89' season looks just like the one now, we lost to the broncos, raiders and giants, and beat the seahawks, bears, and eagles. WE have to beat the chargers, and cardinals according to the schedule. Also it has us 5-5 at the midway point, and lost 2 in a row, won one vs. the eagles ( how ironic) and then lose the next game, to the broncos( this year twas the raiders)This is very uplifting

. Woohooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets Go Skins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ever hear the phrase past performane is no guarantee of future results? still, it's better than nothing I guess. Here's to hoping they turn it around.

This can also be taken that this past week's performance (against the Raiders) is no guarantee of future results.

Keep the Faith my Redskin brotherin!

True, it gives us hope but what were the records of other NFC teams at that point? I mean we fell way behind the cowboys. Although im pretty sure denver can handle them for us this week. bet we also have the bucs, falcons, and giants ahead of us fort the wild card.

The 1989 season is my first full season memory as a Skins fan

I remember that Tuesday morning asking my dad if we beat the Cowboys

I watched that fun 38-14 win over the Bears, then hit some duckpins later on that evening

I remember during the Seahawks game a sweet INT by AJ Johnson, one handed

And then yup, a year later playoffs, 2 years later Superbowl!

I'll be very happy with a 10-6 record

What hurts though is this team really does have the ability to run the table

I was just thinkin the same thing! Only I went duckpin bowlin' after the Seahawks game!

why do people keep saying that this it's wrong to compare the 80s seasons with today's football scene because they are "apples and oranges" or what not.

the game has changed, yeah - THAT dramatically? i'm not sure.

the point is that PEOPLE haven't changed, and the same ability for coach Gibbs to work with people well exists. i can't believe how many people overlook the fact that a good coach is also a good leader, not just someone who knows their Xs and Os, which Gibbs knows. look at norv (yes, he beat us, but point still works) - he leads teams of mediocrity. he's an "offensive genius", but it doesn't stop him from losing touch with his players and losing credibility league wide for someone who can't legitimately make a playoff run frequently. there's no one else who i'd trust more than coach Gibbs to right a ship like ours.

The Redskins are not the only ones that have to play 6 more games.

While we all get focused in on the Skins, dont forget other teams seasons might

not play out to expectations either.

You are absolutely right. Let's look at our NFC East foes

Eagles..... well lets just say DONE.. Beaten by everyone in our division.

Dallas... Fairly soft schedule beaten by Redskins in Dallas

Giants.. By far the easiest schedule to date by any other team in the NFC east.

Any tough team they faced they lost almost all of them. Then there was the Vikings .. Eli Picked off 4 times. Sure we had a let down against them but that won't happen again. The Giants and Cowboys have a long road ahead of them. We will beat the Eagles... We will beat Dallas and We will beat the Giants. Thats 3 more wins right there......
