Awgustlab
did all these Gator handles come from???? I mena, I am not exactly an old vet here at ExtremeSkins, but when I joined I never saw these Gators posting Jack Shizzznit. Now, it seems they are everywhere and most of ths shizzzit I am readin has really nothing to do with the Redskins, but more to do with Steve Spurrier and former Gators. Jeeez, I am beginning to feel really shizzitty here, like our Beloved Redskins are becoming somewhat similar to the Crackwagon and their fairweather fans. It just seems to me that these HBC/SOS/S2/WTFEver fans are not truly DIEHARD Redskins fans (not all, but most) and it is really starting to kinda give me a damn headache reading some of the BS out here lately. Hail to our Beloved Redskins!! (Spurrier or Not)

InstiGATOR
Well since your HBC is a former Gator player and coach, more than half your staff are former Gator players and/or coaches, your starting QB is likely to be a former Gator player, 3 of the WR that make your team are likely to be former Gator players and maybe your third down back will be a former Gator, guess what? Lots of Gator fans are going to be here. Are we long term die hard skins fans? No. But the Skins are likely to have a Gator connection for some years, so we are likley to check in here for some years. But if Snyder for some reason cans SOS after this season and the various Gators with one year contracts go elsewhere, so will we. The good news for you that UF real practices start today. Many of us will be here a bit less as real news to be discussed starts coming out of UF camp this week. But I for one intend to drop by from time to time to follow the Gatorskins. skinsanity56
it's nothing personal with most of us instigator, but it's still a skins website & lately it seems all the posts start or become gator posts.with all the members we have here now we've probably got a fan from every 1A team out there so 99% of us don't care about gator talk.that's why i suggested a new forum for when u gatorfreaks wanna talk smack & we can keep FEDEX to skin chat.hell most of us would check it out anyways:peace1:

Burgold
I've a mixed feeling on this. I admire the fervant loyalty of the gatorskins. Many of these love their players/explayers and coach so passionately that they can not see beyond them. That's kind of fun, if a little egocentric/ethnocentric/gatorcentric? On the same hand, some of the more interesting battles right now are between exgators and others- particularly at wr and qb, so I think that some of these threads would exist even without the gator brethren. It's hard for me to complain if someone feels towards Danny Weurfal the way I feel towards Art Monk and Riggins. On the other hand, some of the interpretations as to what we've seen on the field does seem to be less than objective. Come to think of it, that's okay too, we're not hear to be objective, but to be fans. As for the longevity of their stay- they may have come because of Spurrier et al., but some will become true fans of the team, others will not. My tenure with the Redskins is a little under twenty years as a fan, but that doesn't me think I have any special privelages as to speaking my mind about them. I must admit to feeling odd when I hear of someone who starts off, I was a fan of ---, but now that you have Spurrier, I'm with you guys.... that's just me though. I say welcome all. A gator forum at this point isn't necessary because they are talking about the gators in preseason combat for playing time or roster spots. That is on topic in my opinion. If, when Florida football begins and we have twenty threads a day on what is happening in the college football world, then something should be done. Nighthawk
I honestly can't believe any one would have a problem with Gator fan's being in a Redskins forum. I could care less if they were Redskins' fans before SOS came here. The point is, they're Redskins fans now and I welcome them with open arms. I feel that Gator fans provide a great insight into our coach and former Gator players that would be lacking if they weren't here. The fact that they admire and respect SOS enough to come onto a Redskins forum or even to become Redskins fans because of it speaks volumes about what a great coach we have and what we can expect from him in the future. Welcome!
Mad Mike
I have no problem with Gator fans following the ballcoach and his players to the Skins. That to me is an admirable show of loyalty. And as the ballcoach said "we're all Redskins now". What I DO have a problem with is the typical fair weather fans who will jump on board the Skins bandwagon once we really start wining. (chough, chough, ramsfans) Thanks but no thanks. That's not to say I don't welcome new fans. I was once a new fan myself. I jumped aboard the bandwagon year two of the Gibbs era. (oddly enough I was a Rams fan as a little kid - hey, I liked the helmets:silly: ) But I stuck it out through the lean years. Even though I swore I would find a new team every year under Norv, I just couldn't do it. I bleed Burgandy and Gold. So welcome abord new fans. All I ask is that you take some time to learn about the great tradition and history of Redskins football. If you do I think you will be come fans for life. Atlanta Skins Fan
Originally posted by Awgustlab did all these Gator handles come from???? Oh come on. With one notable exception (Amster....), the Gator fans (who are really just Spurrier fans) have been welcome contributors. Also, we owe these guys, because they bet big on Wuerffel performing for us, and so far they've been right. If you had run a poll around April as to the likelihood of Wuerffel looking commanding as a potential starting QB, probably only 1 in 10 non-Gator members would have predicted that. Other predictions they've made have also proven true: Matthews is good but not as good as Wuerffel. (Again, non-Gator fans sided heavily with Matthews, based on his NFL experience.) Sage won't perform as well as Matthews, at least this season, and possibly ever. Spurrier doesn't have to depend on Stephen Davis running to set up or support the passing offense -- he can just run pass plays. And looking toward the future, we have some new Gator predictions to consider: Grossman might be the best QB for Spurrier of all -- with more NFL physical tools -- though Wuerffel is very close. Grossman would be a better option than Ramsey. Anyway, welcome aboard, Spurrier fans from Gatorland. We hope you will come to appreciate the great Redskin football tradition, which has been tarnished by poor management and coaching in the last decade. But despite the poor play in the last decade, the Redskins are well supported by fans -- the stadium has been sold out for decades, and the waiting list for season tickets could fill a second stadium. We also have some outstanding players for you to appreciate -- holdovers include LB LaVar Arrington; CBs Champ Bailey, Fred Smoot and Darell Green; OTs Chris Samuels and John Jansen; and RB Stephen Davis. Also, some new arrivals will bring excitement: defensive coach Marv Lewis, and players such as Trotter, Armstead, Gardener and Wynn. You guys probably haven't seen much from these guys, and you probably won't see much of them in the pre-season. But come regular season, you'll see the team has more than just a few Gators pull it forward.

Orange&Blue Skins
Awgustlab, you are an arrogant a$$:jerkoff: I have followed the Skins since 1980; I played 95lbs football Theeesman's kid in Viennia. I've lived and die with this team over the years. There hasn't been much to cheer about here lately, and quite frankly I've gotten pretty board with NoFunLeague altogether. So when Steve brought a bunch of my beloved Gators up to establish a new winning tradition in Washington, you're dadgum right I got excited about it. What irks me about guys like you is that instead of getting behind Spurrier and his decisions for the team, you challenge him on every moves he makes, try and change his system and tell what will work and what won't work. I'm sure the HBC would rather just have your thank you. Because deep down in places you don't want to talk about, and at your high-hat ****tail parties where words like "ball coach" and "Fun n Gun" are punch lines to your little jokes, you want Gators on that wall, you need Gators on that wall. You want the truth, you can't handle the truth! My apologies to Sir Jack Nicholson.

Baculus
Heya Nighthawk! Good reply. :-) I also want to extend a greeting to the Gator fans that are now Redskins' fans. Welcome! I know they are following the 'Skins because of Spurrier and Gator players, but I hope they may stay a big longer and become fans of our other players, the team, and its tradition. BTW, I would disagree that 'Skins fans has been "questioning" or "criticizing" Spurrier. Most 'Skins fans have been behind Spurrier since he's been hired--I think if anything, fans have questioned our front office more then anything. But, we've been behind Spurrier since his hire--and especially now! I think some of us have been a bit critical about some of the Gator players, such as Wuerffel and Doering, mainly because they were unknowns to this point (and we knew of them, from their NFL history, wasn't very good), but most fans would admit that they've been pleasently surprised by the Gators. I think this goes to show that both sides, the Gators and 'Skins fans, have a bit to learn from each other! Anyways...once again, welcome to all of the new fans! ~B. I was simply stating that lately almost all of the threads are basically driven by former gator/spurrier talk by these "all of a sudden" gator handles. I myself have been a diehard Skins fan for 20 years and live and die with this TEAM. I don't know where you get the idea that I want to change SOS's system or that I was challenging his moves. I am far from that, instead welcoming him as a breath of fresh air. A new beginning, shall we say from those past years you mentioned that we haven't had much to cheer about. I did however have a slight arrogant *** feel about myself last night when I posted. I do apologize, but I guess it stemmed mostly from 1. muchas cervezas and 2. the feeling I get when I see fairweather Cowboy fans. I did not want the Redskins now to be perceived by others as a team that has all these bandwagoners now. I do also hope that the new Redskins fans who have followed Spurrier and his former players over here, will embrace the Skins as their newfound lifelong favorite team, as some of you posted earlier. Not only because of Spurrier or Wuerffel, but because I believe that we have the greatest tradition and the greatest fans. I wouldn't want it any other way. Hell, I always thought that if you were a Redskins fan, you were one for life. That's what my "contract" said when I signed up.
SurfinSkinFan
Thanks for the welcome! Come on over to my place for a Skins game and a brew ... anytime. I myself am not a fair weather fan ... if we lose 10 games you will see me here ... along with a bunch of us. Most don't realize, before Steve, Florida never won a National Championship ... hell, we never won an South Eastern Conference Championship. We were fans then ... we are fans now ... and we will remain fans. I responded to posters like Awgustlab on a role call to other Gators I started .... hey, if you don't want us ... cool. Take your thousand or so "true" Skins fans who don't want anything to do with Gator alums supporting your team and party ... the few million Skins/Gators who want to enjoy Redskin football together will do fine.
cowboykilla
I just better not see more orange and blue than Burgundy and Gold at FedEx Field. I might have to start targeting Florida fans instead of Eagles fans. Just kidding. But still, I am a skins fan, and a skins fan only. I couldn't give two SHlTS about florida. I want florida fans to be cheering for the WASHINGTON REDSKINS if they are going to go to the games.....not for their beloved Steve Spurrier. Orange&Blue Skins
Awgustlab let's be friends, I know what you’re saying. All front-runners are rats. Personally, I don't think we'll have that bandwagon problem. In fact, if the last 12 years is any indication, the entire establishment will hope for Spurrier’s failure. Most of the media is praying for a chance to give us an "I told you so." Even if the Redskins are successful, it will take years before they will grudgingly give the team its due. Even then, they attribute it to the "evil genius" of the coach. Keep the faith. Hail Redskins

Orange&Blue Skins
It's a deal. Tampa Bay here. Got my tix for the 24th. It's being billed as a grudge match down here. They say Lewis is going to want some pay back for the way he was treated down here. The Glaziers didn't give Spurrier a decent offer, and the bucs cut Green and Anthony. We’re going to hang half a hundred on these paper champions.

maanders
Those of you who are a little ticked with the enthusiasm of Gator/Spurrier fans need to understand that it is what Spurrier and his players have earned in terms of getting the job done when it counts. As many of the others, I have tried to restrict my comments to background information about Spurrier and the Gator players currently on the team, usually in response to specific questions people have asked. I graduated from Florida before Spurrier got there. I lived and died with the team at the games while I was a student there and continued to live and die with the team after that watching games on TV with the local alumni club. I will continue to live and die with the Gators because that is what a true fan is. (And since I was born in Chicago and am a Cubs fan, too, I know ALL about what it means to stick with your team no matter what.) What I have recently realized since Spurrier left Florida and come to the Redskins is how much excitement he and his players added to my fan experience. While I still bleed orange and blue, it won't be quite the same without with out the ol' ballcoach. I followed Spurrier to the Skins because I know how much he loves a challenge and anyone telling him he can't do it the NFL. I also want to see some of his players who do have talent get a chance to excel and fulfill their NFL dreams, too. I have no delusions, though, that those former Gators that aren't earning the jobs will be cut. That is as it should be. But I also know that some of them have just not had the right opportunity yet in the NFL. As Wuerffel has said, it often comes down to being in the right place at the right time. The most interesting thing is that I thought I would follow Spurrier and his players here just for their sake. After a few months on this board, though, I am finding that the team is growing on me, the members of this board are a sharp, enthusiastic set of fans, and I love a good sports story. I see the exact same things happening here as happened when Spurrier first came to Gainesville. He WILL establish a winning tradition here, filled with excitement, great one-liners and rabid enthusiasm among the fan base. This first year should be one whale of a ride! I guess I have caught the bug. I CAN be a Skins fan.
