I watched the Eagles-Packers game while listening to our game on the web. Impressions:

Dorsey Levens looked great. Eagles still don't have much that impresses me at wide receiver. Teams are going to be able to run at the left side of the Eagles defense. Keith "He Hate Me" Smart scored on a nice play in the 4th quarter. What is up with the "plasti-grass" surface at the Vet?. The field looks like it has snow on it.

Green Bay didn't show anything on offense. I don't think they have much at the wide receiver position - all Favre had was dump-offs to the running backs. Green Bay is my pick to be the big disappointment in the NFC this year.

Trent Dilfer went out with a knee injury and had to be removed from the field on a cart. I haven't heard about the extent of the injury, but it looks bad for the Seahawks. I really hate to see this one - Dilfer finally gets a fair chance to start and this happens.

Cleveland lost Jamir Miller for the season - ACL.

I posted this on another board about the eagles, thought it pertained here.

I saw the game yesterday and I also attended a few days of the Eagles training camp at Lehigh and it wasn't the same Eagles team in my mind.

They sorely miss Trotter on Defense, they just don't seem like that attacking defense anymore with him gone. Their DT's are atroscious. Hollis Thomas is out and Simon has been pretty average. Darwin Walker is playing beside him and doesn't scare anyone. Couple those two Dt's with Burgess (who is a nice player but not great), and the line is pretty weak. Douglas is a good pass rusher, but in my mind, opens huge holes vs. the run by taking wide angles to the qb. Barry Gardener is not the answer at MLB, their is a reason that the Eagles signed Kirkland. Unfortunately for them, Kirkland isn't the answer either. Their Db's are still great, though, and it will still be tough sledding vs. them.

When I was at Training Camp, i commented numerous times how unimpressed I was with how McNabb was throwing the ball. He has made absolutely no progress throwing the ball downfield. McNabb was 5-5 for 15 yards last night.

One thing about Dorsey Levens that I will caution about. On that drive in the 2nd quarter last night, the Eagles had their ENTIRE 1st String Offense in vs. the Packers 2nd team. It was a serious mismatch up front and the Eagles just drove the Packers scrubs off the ball like 4 yards, everytime. Dorsey essentially ran over and through scrubs with holes you could drive a Buick through. I wasn't moved. I also wasn't moved by the fact that the Eagles still couldn't pass the ball vs. the Packers 2nd team. The Eagles offense is HORRIBLE.

If the Eagles were smart, they would IMMEDIATELY, go out and Sign both Antonio Freeman and Sam Adams. To me, that is the only way they will be a great team this year. I just don't see it otherwise.

Hey Ken

I guess I thought the Eagles defense looked a little better than you did. Of course, a lot of it was scheme - they like to bring people from everywhere and will blitz on every down - and they have the secondary to get away with it. It will be fun to see how Spurrier schemes against this type of defense. This situation reminds me of Spurrier vs. Joe Lee Dunn's wacky defenses at Mississippi State. MSU beat Florida 2 years ago, but UF still put up over 30 points. UF lost that game because MSU had two running backs put up over 200 yards. Last year UF put up 52 on MSU in the payback game.

McNabb didn't impress me much either. However, it looked like the Eagles WRs just weren't getting open. We have to remember that this is preseason and the Reid doesn't want to show anything.

Porky wishes he had SOMETHING to show but Philly just lacks talent on offense to make things happen period. Trash and Pinky will never see the light of day vs our CBs, we have better LBs, better Dline AND better offense. I don't see anything great about the Eagles, SOS will teach them a lesson on MNF you can bank on that.

Glad to know the a$$whupping Levens was putting on the Pack had to do with first stringers v seconds. I got queasy watching him shred the Pack D.

I confess to having always been a big McNabb fan, from when he played at Syracuse. I have long been afraid of when he'd "make the jump" and become a better passer and less one-dimensional. But if what you guys are posting is accurate, maybe he just won't make the jump. It's not really a knock on him; if he suddenly became a better, smarter passer it'd be almost unfair. But you'd think by now he'd have made some improvements.

Maybe his improvement has just planed out a little. Which doesn't mean that he's not dangerous; just that he's not going to be any tougher to beat in the next few years than he has the past two. Still a challenge. Just not a herculean one.
