Skins24
So...during these practices, who's helping who out more? Is our offense(which will be top 15..top 10?...top 5??)helping our defense more? or Is our defense(which will be top 5)helping our offense more? or Is it about the same? *I would have made this a poll but, there have been too many polls going around and I didn't want to catch pollaria, or pollalisis, or the East Poll Virus. Riggo-toni
I'd have to say the defense, which is loaded w/ Pro-Bowlers, is helping the offense more. Think about all the "didn't quite make it in the pros" gators going against the likes of our secondary, and it's undoubtedly pushing them to get better. Going against one of the best defense in the NFL has got to have given SS all kinds of insight into what will work in the pros, and what might not. bulldog
it goes both ways. the offense, while not loaded with household names yet, gives the defense a chance to face a spread attack with options which is going to help against teams like the Rams, 49ers, Packers and Eagles during the season and hopefully the playoffs. Thinking Skins
THe defense is going to help the offense more because we have a standard defense. Pretty much every team in the league has one similar to ours, just not as exceptional. So going up against them is actual practice for the other teams. The offense is a creation of SS. This is based on timing and proper route running, and even calling the right play. I dont think that the defense is getting helped by this as opposed to practice at runnig plays. Even if the defense were to shut our offense down, it doesnt mean we're gonna shut down Pittsburg or Indianapolis or St. louis.
Awesome
I think that relationship works both ways. SS is giving the D a lot of looks at a spread attack, and the D is more than likely making SS work hard to find success in practice. I doubt any of those long td's against SF would have worked in practice against our first team D. The only thing that worries me is that SS is not giving the D enough looks at running plays. I could see the D potentially having problems with some power running teams, but we'll see
Carlito Sway
Gotta be the D. If SS's side can throw against this backfield, they're in great shape. If they can run against this front seven, they're in great shape. And if they can protect the QB, the Redskins are in awesome shape. But few teams the Redskins play will be throwing that way; the D will face a lot more running than pitching. As such, even though I doubt it'll be a detriment, I don't think they benefit as much. SkinnedGator
1) Spending all that money on top notch defensive players and coaches was a stroke of genius. If SOS can work his magic with the offensive players he has, the Skins will go far in the playoffs THIS year. 2) The "D" will get the ball back quickly and put it back in SOS's hands. 3) Interestingly enough, virtually all scrimmages at UF were filled with offensive highlights and lots of scoring...always made me nervous about our corners. From what I've heard so far at the Skins camp, this trend continues intact. If Spurriers scheme works well against our "D" with Lewis coaching, it should be very effective in the regular season as well.
OrangeSkin
I wonder if playing against a top notch defense will hurt the offense's confidence. It will certainly help, because Marv Lewis can prepare them for whatever type of blitz package or anything they may see. But in a scrimmage for instance, wouldn't the offense say, "damn, we suck" if they couldn't move the ball at all? I'm sure that Steve is masterful enough at psychological manipulation to curve the ill effects of being held scoreless, however. This post is of no relevance, and I'm an idiot, because I basically disagree with what I'm writing. I'm just throwing it against the wall for the sake of discussion. Carry on. SkinnedGator
Its the other way around Orange. I don't see the "O" having any difficulty with Lewis "D" in scrimmage...do you? Gotta worry about the "D" psyche I think.
NavyDave
The Defense helps and with both squads at full strength it would be like a day off for the offense when facing opposing teams D. And after watching the pitts offense the other night I dont seee us having a problem with them. The Rams play us in november on grass here so I like our odds.
