Love Spurrier One Liners? More to come - Guaranteed!

From a lifelong Gator and die-hard Spurrier fan, I just thought I would let Redskins get a feel for what we thoroughly enjoyed defending all these years. It doesn't get much better than this!

1991 Steve Spurrier, Florida football coach, telling Gator fans that a fire at Auburn's football dorm had destroyed 20 books: "But the real tragedy was that 15 hadn't been colored yet."

On Florida State's Foot Locker scandal: "You know what FSU stands for, don't you? Free Shoes University."

On Kentucky trying several on-side kicks in a 1997 game: "If I had a defense like (Coach) Hal Mumme has, I'd be trying them on every kick-off."

On whether a small crowd at Vanderbilt two years ago surprised him: "Surprised? It's Vandy. There must have been something good on TV."

On Florida rival Tennessee

I know why Peyton came back for his senior year. He wanted to be a three-time star of the Citrus Bowl. ( Manning was never able to beat the Gators)

I heard they just hung a new sign outside the Citrus Bowl in Orlando: WINTER HOME OF THE TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS.

After the 1996 Florida victory in Neyland Stadium:

"They said it was going to be real loud and I admit it was... during pre-game warm-ups."

On the ACC

"I read in one of those magazines that Tommy Bowden was the (Atlantic Coast Conference) Coach of the Year, and they went 6-6," he said. "(Former North Carolina State coach) Mike O'Cain went 6-6 and got fired. So, it's sort of all perception."

FLASHBACK – 1997

This was Spurrier's response to a question that he ran up the score in an 82-6 victory over hapless Central Michigan:"We ran it up in the first half, I'll admit that," he said.

Florida led 56-3 after 30 minutes.

"We tried to score every time we touched the ball," Spurrier said. "We rapid-fired on seven of eight possessions. In the second half, everybody played. If people want to say we ran it up, and they've been saying that for eight years, that's OK. We can live with that. We don't much care what people are saying about us."

Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer knows the feeling. After jumping to a 30-14 lead in 1995, Fulmer watched almost helplessly as Florida ran off 48 straight points and finally won, 62-37, the most points scored against a Tennessee team.

The Spurrier era at Florida was so sweet while it lasted -

I hope it is the same for you fortunate Redskins!

I watched the re-cap of the 1995 season last nite on Sunshine...we scored those 48 points against UT in 25 minutes.

Jeez, it wasn't that difficult with DW, Doerring, Fred Taylor, Fred Weary, Ike Hilliard, Quez and Reidel, E. Williams and Lott

Oh yea, don't forget we scored 28 pts against Auburn that year in 5.38 min.:pint:
