SHANT
Does anybody else feel as if the coaching staff gave up on the run game a little bit to early??? I know neither the run or pass was working but it just seems like once we fell behind 10 or 13 to nothing all we did was drop back and pass I dunno???? What do you guys think???? Ricky Ervins
I totally agree. I was sitting in the stands yelling for Gibbs to pound it, even when we were down by 13, 16, 19 points. we needed to loosen up that defense that has struggled against the run all year. Also, I cant figure out for the life of me, why we don't use a quick toss play to get CP to the outside. Everytime we have used it this year, it has been successful. Skins24
I want to know why people are blaming Portis for the coaches abandoning the run, or blaming him for not run blocking for himself....
aolforbroadband
Portis got EFFED up that one play, and I think that's probably why he didn't do anything later. Ladell didn't do much, and neither did Rock.
playoffsplz
Yea i completely agree. It almost looked like the coaches panicked after all the big run plays by the Giants
asnpcwiz
CP isn't 100%, and running him on a tough division game like this was a tough choice. We couldn't establish a running game and couldn't afford to hurt CP any more. We were just horrible all around...it wasn't just the running game. Nobody is blaming Portis, I just don't know why they gave up on the run when we were only down 10/13 to

OK if CP isn't 100% why not put in Rock or Betts and not abandon the running game 5 minutes into that debacle of a football game....we were only down 10/13 points and that was managable to come back from:doh:
dawgjk9
i thought so too...i think we shoulda used LB a little more considering portis is kinda banged up
Sebowski
Of course they did, but it isn't anything new. Gave up on the run in KC too, just not to such an extreme as on Sunday. That was terrible. CP needs the ball.
awd_sr
they definitely abandoned the run waaaay too early. I think with those early strings of 3 and outs, they panicked. But they should have pounded away, a long drive based on the run with a few passes dropped in here and there, thats the way to grab the momentum. Early on, the D held them to FGs, despite giving up the huge runs.
NateDawg8732
I was thinking the same thing in the first and second quarters. We would get the ball and throw 3 passes and be forced to punt. Portis def needs the ball in anyway possible. You have to be able to run the ball on the road and be mentally tough to win on the road.

I see the stretch plays and fewer counters, but why are we not pulling randy thomas more on some sweeps? Thrash and Thomas are GREAT blockers on the move and you have to get portis to the outside to make him effective.
Guest BleedinBurgundyandGold
i would also submit that it seems like when we get portis on some off tackle plays it looks like he and our line absorb the hit, rather than laying the hit.....any thoughts? laurent
Look, there's no point in harping on it now. This game was a complete and utter disaster from coaching staff to players. We shoulda, coulda done a lot of things better/different but at the end of the day it really doesn't matter. We're 1-1 in the division and have a shot at getting back on track this coming weekend. DCscorpio
We dropped at and thew too much.We should have ran some screens, and some comeback routes.
thelarkascend1ng
coaching-wise, maybe it was a bit premature in hindsight. it kind of snowballed from the first play. dropped passes don't help your offensive production, and you can't expect a run game to just take off after something like that. Cdowwe
IMO Brunell isnt as good when we give up on the run...forgetting the last second heroics of the Dallas game.
