BIGJOE44
I have watched every redskins game since the mid 90's and that was the worst played game (I) have ever seen them play. It really seemed like a Norv or SS coached team. I am shocked to say the least. Lets hope this is a wake up call for the upcoming games because its going to get real tough. Also did anyone think Brunell looked hurt. It seem like at the begining of the game he had some lanes to run but got rid of the ball instead. Mark The Homer
A little history. Every SB season with Gibbs, the worst loss was by less than a touchdown in any of the four seasons, the exception being a 14 point loss in 1982. Almost every loss was by less than a field goal. Here's some devastating losses in prior years: 1992 - opened the season with a huge win over the Cowboys. Then, Lost to Giants 41-7 Lost to Cardinals 36-6 Lost do Dallas 38-3 ...ended up 4-12 1998 - started the season 0-7, including Lost to Niners 45-10 Lost to Vikes 41-7 ...ended up 6-10 2001 - started the season 0-5, including Lost to Chargers 30-3 Lost to Packers 37-0 Lost to Chiefs 45-13 ...ended up 8-8 2002 - started 4-4, including Lost to Eagles 37-7 ...ended up 7-9 2003 - started 3-1, then Lost to Cowboys 27-0 ...ended up 5-11 It bothers me that I can't find even one winning season that includes a loss anywhere as near as devastating as the one today. More history: Excluding last year, Gibbs has only done this poorly (i.e. 4-3 or worse) after 7 games four times before: 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990. He made the playoffs once. Lost first game. Conclusion: We ain't gonna make it to the show this year.
scruffylookin
This may have been the worst "Joe Gibbs" led Redskins loss ever, but there have been a ton under Norv, Marty and SS that come close to this one. Mark the Homer has laid them out nicely. As for Gibbs, 1985 was the worst for Gibbs teams. They opened the season with a 30 point defeat to Dallas (44-14) then lost to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Bears a few weeks later by 35 points (45-10). They also got beat by the Niners at RFK by 27 (35-8). They still finished the season 10-6 but missed the playoffs. We'll see what kind of character this Redskins team has. Kilmer
Spurrier's Monday night loss to the Eagles was worse, but yea this was pretty bad.
Drockvb
Pretty ugly huh? The Eagles gave up alot of points today too. Do you think the Eagles will loose 2 straight? Uhg. I think this is going to be a mediocre season. The skins schedule gets no easier. Yikes.
blackice7x
I hope this knocked the skins of their perch. I hope it said to them "we not one of those teams who can not try and still win games.
chiefhogskin48
There have been so many worse losses than this. Remember that the margin of defeat is only one factor. I'd certainly rather get smoked by a very good Giants team than lose to very bad teams, like we've done in the past. During that Shottenheimer season, three of those first five losses were more devastating than this. The humiliating opener against a bad Chargers team, the home blowout to an average Chiefs team, and the Turkey Day loss to a miserable Cowboys squad. It was about as bad a stretch as you could imagine. The late Spurrier era (how quickly we forget) was equally incompetent. The team just got worse and worse as time went on. (Remember getting stomped by the woeful Bills?). I think for me, the worst was probably the Steelers game in 2000- the year we were "supposed" to go to the Super Bowl. We got dominated in every phase of the game and appeared to simply give up. Today, it didn't look like we gave up. We played without passion, and we were playing a superior team at their home field riding an unbelievable wave of emotion. They wanted it more, and when you think about it, can you blame them? This year I really think we have a chance to quailfy for the playoffs, we cant just give away games like we did vs KC or just not show up like today. trez
This was a different team than the one that played San Francisco last week. That was terrible.
cyfar
The Body Bag game is still the worst I've ever seen. Anytime you end up with Brian Mitchell having to play the rest of the game at QB because both starter and back up got trashed along with almost half of the team, that's pretty damn bad. This game hurt pretty bad thou.

75004
It is the worst defeat of a Joe Gibbs team, this is what the commentators were saying. I felt we still had a chance going into the second half but  $h!t happen.
PiLfan
It bothers me that I can't find even one winning season that includes a loss anywhere as near as devastating as the one today. Gibbs teams in his first era have had pummelings not unlike this one...just to show that we were never immune to the occasional butt-whipping: 1983: what was that game...you know the one?, i think we were playing the Raiders...it was called the "Super"...super something. we lost 38-9. 1984: Lost at Meadowlands 37-13 that year we still finished 11-5, Division champs 1985: Lost at Dallas 44-14 Lost at Chicago 45-10 Lost at home to the Niners 35-8 that year we still finished 10-6...didn't make the playoffs, but there was one fewer playoff team back then. 1986: Lost at Dallas 30-6 (and it wasn't that close) that year we finished 12-4 and went to the NFC Championship. 1988: Lost at Houston 41-17 Lost at home to Bears 34-14 Lost at Niners 37-21 this was Gibbs one real bad year in his first tenure, we finished 7-9. 1990: Lost at Niners 26-13 (was nowhere near as close as score indicates) Lost at Philly 28-14 (Body Bag game...we all know and remember the horrors of this one). finished 10-6, got revenge against Philly in playoffs. we also got thumped several times in 1992...though maybe not to the same extent. More history:Excluding last year, Gibbs has only done this poorly (i.e. 4-3 or worse) after 7 games four times before: 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990. He made the playoffs once. Lost first game. actually, he made it twice ('85 and '90)...he won a playoff game in '90. in all years, except '88, his team finished no worse than 10-6....and the '89 team would've made the playoffs in todays format, because there was one fewer playoff team back then. bottom line, the loss was bad yes....it was humiliating, yes...but prior Gibbs' teams have a history of bouncing back from these things...i expect a solid comeback next Sunday. :point2sky
McMetal
The word you keep hearing over and over this morning is "exposed" and it's hard to argue that we weren't. This was an extremely disturbing loss that will be hard to recover from. The Eagles will be p*ssed and ready to slap us around in our own house. All that excitement, positive energy and execution from the first few games just seems like a mirage now.

HailYeah
This is so depressing listening to you guys. This was a throwaway game. Could have been huge, but its not. Lets not use the fact that we lost big against us and make it worse. We will be a different team again next week at home.
