Unsung Hero: Jansen a Top Reason for Redskins' Offensive

Thursday October 27, 2005 6:31am

Ashburn, VA (AP) - There's no shortage of players responsible for the Washington Redskins' offensive improvement this season, but right tackle Jon Jansen doesn't get as much recognition as some others.

Coach Joe Gibbs says the veteran lineman ranks right up there with Mark Brunell, Santana Moss, Chris Cooley and Clinton Portis.

Jansen always gets a bit more attention during New York Giants week because his matchups with defensive end Michael Strahan are mano-amano classics for anyone who studies life in the trenches.

They've been going at it since 1999, though Jansen missed last season because he ruptured an Achilles' tendon in pre-season.

Jansen expects nothing but the best from his teammates and himself, even while playing with two casts after breaking both thumbs over a six-day period last month.
