BigDaddyShoo
I was watching the replay of our San Fran game on the Sunday Ticket Shortcuts yesterday and I noticed something odd about Patten. On both of his receptions, especially his 35? yarder, he didn't cradle the ball while running after the catch. His tendency is to palm the ball. Now while most receivers do this, Patten has an exagerated swing in his arms while running. If he gets more touches in the coming weeks, I fear that he'll fumble the ball at least once because of his style of running. The bright side is that he's got the classic St. Louis/New England mentality that makes him drop low to the ground when a defender approaches to ensure he's down. :2cents:
Skins11
I noticed that too, and I was a little scared when he was doing it. However, he only has 3 fumbles over his career, having lost 1 of those. Did he always carry the ball like this?
jivelikenice
I think he was aware of who was around him and used his amrs to gain extram momentum....He wraps up before begin hit or when he's in traffic....He's a vet, I wouldn't be too concerned. ccsl2
Did anyone also see how in one formation he lined up split out, and was in a 3 point stance? I was like dude it is not retro week in the NFL.I beleive it was the play right after the first pass he caught.
TD_washingtonredskins
I think that he only did it knowing he was in the open field. Had he been in traffic, you'd see the ball tucked away. No biggy in my book.
Jumbo
True on those plays, but I agree with the point about just looking at his career and fumbles for number of touches. I'm not worried. I'm exited about knowing we have yet to tap Patten's known ability and what he'll contribute to this still-growing offense. I look forward to him getting more touches as teams understandably figure out how to manage Moss, Cooley, (and now Sellars) and Clinton. Besides, at risk of being all homer-like again, I think it's a pretty safe bet that anything we notice on film is addressed by the hawkeyes on the D coaching staff. dawgjk9
its ok, as long as moss keeps dominating, i wont have to worry a bout patten

End2round2sanders
yea we dont want a Reche Caldwell situation in NY. Someone tell him to craddle the ball.

JWB
Patten is a proven veteran, I think he knows what he's doing. And if he didn't, that is something that they probably went over after looking at those plays.

LiveStrongSkins
Until he fumbles its not a problem. He is a seasonsed Vet, by palming the ball he was able to generate more speed by using arm drive. Did you see how he pulled away from the defender? It sure isnt textbook.. but I think he knows when to do it and when not to. Until it actually becomes a problem I wouldnt worry so much.
sableholic
I'm sure he noticed nobody was around him save the one defender and felt with the added speed he could get by. He tucked it in the end.

stanley seay
hello fellow "REDSKINS FANS". i remember seeing that in a highlight of the game. if you can remember JOHN RIGGINS did this when he got into the open field during a big run. i have heard that you will have better/quicker type of run by doing this. i too hope that the ball will be "tucked away" as not to fumble. i have seen too many times when a tackler would come up behind the ball carrier & "punch" the ball away. he is a VET & i am sure that he knows what he is doing........don't worry.......just WIN!!!
