Taylor 36
By no means am I trying to be a pessimist or a ball breaker here, but I have noticed that most of the threads I have read the last couple of days, with subjects about this upcoming game with the Giants, have us destroying the G-men and laughing all the way to the NFC East Title. I would love for that to happen, don't get me wrong, but doesn't anyone else feel as though many of the fans here are getting a little ****y and overconfident in our team? I mean, a win is a win, whether it is a last second extra point to put you ahead by one, or a 35 point blow out. But, the Giants are not close to being a San Francisco. We will actually have to earn this win. We are playing on their home field where Manning has been brilliant as of late. With that said, I think we have a great chance at winning this game. I just don't want everyone around here opening up the "eat crow" flood gates by opposing team fans because we all got too ****y and arrogant. I also don't want to see all the threads start up again calling for Gibbs' or Williams' heads because some overconfident fans got crushed when their team goes on to barely lose. Go Skins.....it SHOULD be a good game. Let's just not get carried away!!! HTTR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Loxley
Whatever happens, fans will be fans. If we cant get excited about our game what is the point in watching it. Some people get filled with confidence only to have that come crashing down the following weekend. Some people follow a little more conservatively, refusing to get excited till the final quarter when theyre up by 21 points or something. Everyone is different, to quell the enthusiasm would be like not admitting people in on game day.
Taylor 36
In no way am I trying to quell enthusiasm. People should be excited and pumped for this game. It is against a division rival who happens to currently be tied with us in record and standing as the top of the division. However, being enthusiastic and excited is not that same as overconfident. There is definitely a line that is drawn there and I think that there are many here who have crossed over that line. I, as a Redskins fan, am just trying to looking out for my fellow Redskins fans. And, dare I say, I am a little superstitious about things like this. It is like when the commentators start talking about how good of a kicker this guy is and how he hasn't missed a FG in 16 tries. Next play, blocked FG run back for a TD by the oppossing team.
Larry
Well, "we" (the folks on the message board) are overconfident. (Although, I think you may be confusing some good natured smack talk with delusions of grandeur. I think you'll find that most of the folks 'round here would honestly rate us as "we're better, and we may be enough better to overcome their home field advantage.") However, if you think that "we" (the Redskins. And all the folks on this board are allowed to call the team "we", right?) are taking this game lightly, allow me to point out that Coach Joe actually got angry because he thought we were taking San Francisco lightly. You won't see any Redskin players making ****y statements to the media, or things like that. And frankly, even we (the fan we) respect the Giants. JimmiJo
We the fans are not on the field, and IMO Gibbs is one of the best at preparing a team mentally, and since we are playing the #1 scoring team, I don't think you need worry about overconfidence from the 'Skins. That being said, I expect us to beat the Giants this Sunday.

riggins44
Fans maybe overconfident, but Gibbs won't allow the team to fall into this trap.
TD_washingtonredskins
...as long as the Skins aren't over-confident, (which ain't gonna happen under Gibbs), who cares? Agreed. I never understood the logic of fans saying that they should stay grounded. Personally, I try to temper my enthusiasm so that I'm always pleasantly surprised (by a good game) or prepared (for a bad game). That's just the way I'm wired...but I totally understand if some fans like to brag and boast and expect the best on each and every play! :point2sky

Oh let's just have fun it has been a long time (how long was Joe in retirement?) since we had a team to be over-confident about. This will be a war this week but we will prevail. gortiz
Standing from the outside looking in out ... This Sunday the the 2nd ranked offense in the NFL is going up against the 31st ranked defense. The 4th ranked Defense is going against an up and coming QB who is making his 18th start of his NFL career ... We have a reason to be confident

jrockster21
But, the Giants are not close to being a San Francisco. Actually, statistically, the Giants defense is as close to San Francisco as anyone can be! But seriously...we are fans. What does it matter if we get ****y and overconfident? I for one am still drunk on the 52-point punch...I don't care who we dropped all them touchdowns on!!! Man. That is going to last all season, I think. When the Skins win handily, will you revisit this thread and say we're all super-smart, and not overconfident?
bubba9497
NY is the center of the sports media universe, and they receive more hype than usually deserved (ex. Jeremy Shocky)... what I see is more fans squelching the hype with reality.
jabronijames
I think you have a good point there. I still think we have a great chance of winning this one though. Tiki is a good back and will probably bust a run or two on our defense. However, our offense is in a good position to take advantage of the Giants defense throughout the game. Eli is a decent quarterback, but let's face it. It's his second season and he's still learning. If (big if) we can shut down Burress and Shockey for the majority of the game, we have the advantage. If we can only shut down one of them, we're still okay. If we can't shut down either, we're screwed. Anyway, hoping for a great football game on Sunday and would like to see us dominate. If it comes down to a winning field goal in overtime, though, I won't be complaining. :helmet: :helmet: :helmet: :helmet:
