have uguys noticed...not to knock our running backs or anything they did good, but everytime they break out for a big run sometime during that run they start to trip up and stumble around? i mean our RB's are doing well its just that if they didnt trip up we would have alot more running yards/possible touchdowns. is it just me?

I have been noticing that too. It seems that for some reason they get happy feet. Don't know if it comes from trying to cut or trying to avoid a hit. But it is something that should be worked out. Stop slipping and stay on your feet and fight for more yards fellas.

Our offense hasnt been the best running system as of late

Wha?!?!?

This team is averaging 140 yards per game on the ground. They are near the top of the league in time of possession.

Do you really have to find something to complain about?

Geez!

Anybody think this might be a coaching miscue? Byner may be trying to get them to run a certain way, ie cover the ball with both arms, keep head down and lean forward, much to the detriment of Portis' (maybe Betts') natural cutting and slashing ability in which he has to run upright and use his vision.

That was my theory some weeks ago (the ball security causing him to lose balance and speed in the second-third level.) In Denver, Portis on many plays would just have the ball in one hand and do his thing. Things are different now and he had some fumble issues last year, so I see him grabbing the ball and securing it, sometimes when he has more space to work with and shouldn't be securing the ball yet. Both hands on the ball cuts down on your speed and changes balance.

So yeah, I'd agree with you.

He runs with ALOT!!! of leverage and it unbalances him with a hit it tops him over, its not like Steven Davis who just plows through people.. but what portis is doing has sumwhat of a good effect he's able to break through initial contact and when he's tackled he always goes foward. he has to run with this leverage because gibbs system is made for a big back.

i think its because they break tacles and they r going so fast they trip

most rb's just go through the hole

i think our o lines are working on that to make big holes

I've noticed and don't really understand it. It seems to me it's correctable. A couple of times today, Portis just seemed to dive into coming tacklers rather than evade them.

It's because of the coaches preaching ball security. Portis or Betts will clutch the ball with both hands and lean low for the hit once they see an impending defender. Without their arms to balance the rbs start to trip. Not only does it lower the risk of a fumble but injury as well.
