Which Redskin QB is your favorite of all times?

Umm...Put me down for Joe Theismann; RFK and 1987.

If you'll let me ramble for just a minute, I love all of these topics.

Not only was Joe T. my favorite quarterback, but he was/is a helluva good guy. One of my best early Redskin memories was my parents taking me to Dickinson for training camp when I was 9. Joe T. came in just as we got there, and there weren't any other fans close by. My mom recognized him in street clothes (yea mom!) and begged him to pose for a picture. He gave us the old, "Sure, let me put my stuff away and I'll be right back."

I figured I'd never see him again, but he came back about five minutes later and walked right over to us. He took me under the rope that seperated the fans from the locker room area, sat me on his knee and posed for several pics. He shook hands with my dad, kissed my mom on the cheek and ran out onto the field. He was everything I had hoped my hero would be.

Well in 1983, one-hour photo processing was just beginning. I begged mom and dad to go to the mall and get the pics developed. They obliged, and I paced the mall for an hour. When we got back to the photo store, the lovely girl at the counter informed us that the roll was over-exposed and all the pictures were lost. I was 9, so yeah, I cried. But it's cool now because the memory is what I WANT it to be.

RFK was, is, and will always be Redskin football. Only got to go there once for a game against Miami, but I'll never forget it. The Dallas rivalry in the 1980s was sick. The "We Want Dallas" chants, the bouncing stands...and little things, like the "Baseball in DC" sign. All of it, made RFK the mecca of football for me.

1987: Redskins go down 10-0 after the first quarter. Dear old mom says, "It doesn't look good for the Redskins." Soon after, the 80-yard bomb to Sanders kicks off a 35-point second quarter, and the rest is history.

Ever since, whenever the Redskins are struggling, I call up mom and just say, "Say it." She says, "It doesn't look good for the Redskins," and every once in a while it works...again.

Anyway, sorry to ramble, but you brought back some great memories with a relatively simple post DCM. Looks nice with the pics though. Thanks.

I gotta go with Sonny for the best of the history, Joey T. though as my pesonal favorite, RFK but soon to be Fed-Ex I can feel it coming, 1991 though that's totally splitting hairs, ab-so-freakin-lutely Gibbs, and you guys will think I'm crazy, but Dan The Man Snyder.

The guy has pulled some big bone-heirs but he's got the heart, got the love of 'skins deep in 'im, is a helluva of an achiever, is willing to empty the purse for the team and do whatever it takes, is learning g from the past, and I think he sounds like a cool and interesting guy personally.

And dammit I love the guys and the coaches on this team today! These are Redskins! :point2sky

I'm sorry to hear about the photos, I had the exact same thing happen when I went to a Redskins vs Eagles game at the VET. We took great photos, and wanted them to be developed fast. The whole roll was ruined. So sad. I also picked Joe Theismann. He could kick field goals, run, throw, call plays from the line with no speakers in his helmet. If it wasn't for L.T. putting a hurting on him he would've set records. I also would pick R.F.K. because it was in D.C., and the sound would rock the opposing teams. I hope FedEx gets to the way RFK was some day. I pick Joe Gibbs as the Head Coach! My favorite receiver was Art Monk, but Santana Moss is a close 2nd.

I'd have to say Joe Theismann.

He was the QB for our first Super Bowl victory. As a 6 year old kid. He made quite an impression on me. First Skins Jersey I ever owned was Joe's #7.

Cool idea for a thread.

Thank you. I was going to ask who's your favorite running back, but I figure Riggo would win hands down!

Sonny was a bit before my time, but I heard he was awesome by my father. He's one of my favorite announcers of the game. I hope he's feeling better he just got of the hospital a couple weeks ago.

Right now, I'd certainly have to say "the diesel" "REV UP DAT DIESEL! REV UP DAT DIESEL!"

I really hope that somebody gives him a run for his money though.

Clinton?

Clinton Portis is good, but not better than Riggo!

Super Bowl XVII MVP

John Riggins may be best remembered for his game-breaking, 43-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XVII against the Miami Dolphins. The run sealed a 27-17 Redskins' victory. For racking up 166 total rushing yards, Riggins was named the game's Most Valuable Player.

7269 Rushing Yards on 1920 attempts 3.7 average with 70 tds

1983: Named the Maxwell Club Player of the Year and named to the All-NFL team and the AP All-Pro Team

Clinton Portis could be better than him, since he's young but he hasn't proven himself to be better than Riggo yet.

Hey you forgot a QB..how about Heath Shular  , what a bumb! Im happy that you didnt put that guy on the list. Anyways I went with Doug Williams as my favorite QB, um RFK stadium because I heard that place was a blast, even though Ive never been there personally. I also picked the 1987 chamionchip team because thats the year that I became a redskins fan. For the owner I picked Dan "HE MAN" Snyder because I like how he likes to do anything to try to get this team to the promise land he doesnt want anything less than to win. Also because he aint cheap when it comes to money unlike Al Davis of the raiders. Now for the coach, this is easy for me Ive got to go with Gibbs! Hes the coach that was there when I first started to like the team and hes the coach now. He does a great job as coach, and he has a great character. He is the defintion of winner. Thats what he is to me, no matter what people think and if the media critizes his 6 and 10 season last year. Who gives a crap..Parcells finished 6 and 10 last year too and no one gives him crap. Anyways Im really thrilled to be part of this organization as a fan and always will be.

When Dan "HE MAN" was able to get Coach Joe Gibbs to return with Bugell and staff I think he became the town favorite.

Doug Williams was the first African American to go to and win a SuperBowl, and I don't think that happened again until McNabb last year. McNabb didn't win though. I like # 7.

I liked Doug. I was happy to see him doing the interviews when it was announced that Gibbs was comming back. You never saw much of him until then.

So that would go along with the 87 superbowl champs!! Who was favored to win that game? I was just a kid.

I would have loved to see a game at Griffith. RFK will always be my favorite.

And of course the two immortals, Mr. Cooke and Joe Gibbs. Two names that will come up 40 years from now.

As for the coach, I don't think there's any question that Gibbs is #1. Intelligence, ability, class, humility, style, he's just untouchable in my mind. I'd have to give major props to George Allen for his role in building the true rivalry with the Cowboys.

Owner? Tough. I loved JKC. Loved life. Loved the Redskins. Loved DC. And loved the fans. Of course, GPM was the one who moved the Skins to DC. I can't tell you how different my life would be if that had never happened.

And Mr. Snyder, if you're lurking, I believe you're the next truly great Redskin owner. You're a fan first. And while that might have hurt a little early on, it guarantees your heart is always in the right place. WE BELIEVE!

RB? Riggins could carry all 11 defenders for four or five yards every time he touched the ball. I've never seen anyone like him. And his off the wall personality was classic.

Man Dalecitymike, I gotta be honest. When I saw the title for this thread, I kinda thought it'd be, well, less than great. You proved me wrong bro. Bigtime. Thanx again!

Doug Williams, who came to the Redskins from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1986, won Super Bowl XXII Most Valuable Player honors when he led Washington to a 42-10 rout of the Denver Broncos. Williams completed 18 of 29 passes for 340 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. Williams outdueled the Broncos' John Elway, connecting on two long bombs of 80 and 50 yards to Ricky Sanders and a 27-yard pass to Gary Clark.

He did finish his career with a 78.5 rating compared to 71.1 rating of Joe Theismann, but he only played for 3 years as a skin. I think in history he might be better known as a coach. I would love to see him go to the Redskins as an assitant.

I voted for Rypien. Mainly because although I did see Joey T play a little, it was at the very backend of his career and Ryp is the first guy I seen a lot of. He was never the greatest QB but he did throw a pretty deep ball and had a lot of guts. When he was needed to step up, he often did.

I think Soony and Slingin' Sammy are two of the best of all time, but not having hardly seen them play (although what I read is very good) I went for Ryp.

From DaleCityMike

Has conditioning been a problem as a rookie in the NFL compared to college? Your speed and talent in the position is nothing short of blessed, but can you maintain the high level of excellence to the post season? Darrell Green used to run up and down a huge hill every day for years to keep in shape. What tricks have you learned by the staff to keep you in shape?

Carlos Rogers:

Quote:

Not yet. I’m a guy that at Auburn I played everything and didn’t come off the field. I keep myself in pretty good shape and I think I’ve got a lot of energy out there on the field. I don’t usually get tired. I think you’ve just got to keep your body in shape by getting in the cold tub and things like that that are going to help you last, give you strength and help your body last through the rough and tough times.

I really like this guy. I think he's going to be a long time star CB for the Redskins!
