KirkNC
Anyone think he could be cut in order to free up a little cap room? We only paid him a $25,000 bonus and he is scheduled to earn $775,000. With the signing of Gardner and the impressions that some of the young DT's are making... could he be in jepordy? If released it would free up 450k. I liked him in GB and thought it was a good signing, still he better get his arse into the practices and start showing!
Atlanta Skins Fan
He's supposed to be cleared to practice soon. And we need him to set up a DL rotation. Also, Gardener's back cannot be relied upon, so we must have a 5th player of starting caliber on the team. He's cheap and good, if not great. Golgo-13
Let's have a good, long look at him before we do that. Remember that he can double up as an end and a tackle. That may come in VERY handy later in the season.
Joey The Damn Redskin
Nice observation. Here is a quote from the Sporting News saying the same thing, so the idea is out there. Dotson suffered the injury in June during a coaching session workout. He is expected to be back soon, but the team took the precaution of placing him on the active/PUP list. The injury has been costly for Dotson. The team has signed Daryl Gardener to start, moving Dotson to a backup role, if the team decides to keep him. Donovan Arp has been working at tackle in Dotson's absence and has been doing a credible job.
Awesome
Nope, definitely against cutting Santana Dotson. His best days may be behind him, but we need every experienced d-lineman rin the fold right now. I'm not expecting him to start, or really contribute all that much. But if he can spell Gardener for 10-15 snaps a game, and be somewhat effective, he's worth keeping
bulldog
let's not forget that Dotson can also play outside at end and with Bruce Smith recovering from TWO knee surgeries there is no guarantee how durable he is going to be this season
laurent
I personally wouldn't mind having some depth on the defensive line. With the way Spurrier is attacking downfield our defense could end up spending a lot of time on the field.
player69gh
sorry but u don't cut a solid d-line men like dotson with are d-line when he is making 450,000 and smith and gardern you need somebody to rotate cause both of them are questions cause age or injury i would be very surprise if doston was to get cut but if he does the youngens must be doing well but doubt of any of them being better then dotson at any point in thier life cause dotson has proven to be a solid player in the nfl
Hoosierskin
In this league, the more horses you have the better. We need the depth and Dotson helps provide it. Also, Dotson is not costing much at all against the cap. It is a win, win situation.
bulldog
Donovan Arp has improved but he is nowhere near Dotson in terms of knowledge of the NFL or versatility in playing all 4 line positions. right now, that is not even a comparison worth making. in fact if memory serves Arp player very little if at all last season. he is in essence a rookie. and an undrafted one at that. don't expect too much right away. linemen can take awhile and Arp is just 24. NavyDave
Well Dotson reinjured the calf and was carted off. So an injured guy with potential to me takes a backseat to a young healthy kid.
Utah
That sucks for him. You know he is as excited as anyone else on the team and wants to be out there.

I like the talented youngsters, but that is what they are youngsters! Veteren depth is a good thing!
spanishomelette
there's a thread at CPND that corroborates what NavyDave posted. Supposedly a career ending blown achilles. So much for veteran depth. We could have used him definitely.

Now or never with some of our youngsters! Or scour the cuts in about 2-3 weeks. Ouch
Potato Sack
The Post reports that Dotson just ruptured his Achilles Tendon in practice yesterday. He's probably done this year. Some "experts" are saying his career might be over as well. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A52577-2002Aug6.html The only promising part of it is that Cowsette may get a chance to step up... Hunley said several young players, among them former Maryland player Del Cowsette and Donovan Arp, will be given a chance for more action. God...you gotta hate what's happening to Dotson. Tommy-the-Greek
I had a feeling something like this was going to happen when I read on another thread guys joking about the Cowgirl "O" line injuries. It never seems to fail, you tease another teams fans about there injury/lose and wham the injury bug hits you. This one really hurts due to his versatility. He would have helped us alot this year rotating with our DT's or De's taking 10-20 snaps a game keeping other guys fresh. I was pleasantly surprised watching Cowesette and L. Jackson in the preseason game, but we need all the depth we can get and this one really hurts.
Novato
He'll get an injury waiver settlement. I'm sure that Cowsette has shown that he is an adequate backup, with different abilities to penetrate the line. I would like to think that the team will watch him closely these next couple of games and then decide wether sign or not to sign another backup veteran tackle. At this moment what are our options out there?
