tr1
Redskins rated over the Cowboys and Eagles...just wanted to share with my friends... http://www.cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/powerrankings A week ago, I said there would be one unbeaten team left by Monday morning. When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington Redskins and Cincinnati Bengals all lost close games, it left the Indianapolis Colts as the only team that still has the 1972 Miami Dolphins waiting to pop the champagne. The Colts are 5-0 and appear to be unchallenged until they face the New England Patriots on the road Nov. 7. That makes the Colts the easy pick to sit atop the CBS SportsLine Power Rankings. Good luck figuring it all out after that. The Pittsburgh Steelers are next in the second spot, but what if Ben Roethlisberger is down for a long period of time? Are they really the second-best team with Charlie Batch throwing passes? After the Steelers, it gets really tricky, maybe as tricky as it's been putting this 32 together. With losses by the three unbeaten teams, plus the Eagles and Falcons also losing, it makes for a lot of tough choices in the top 10. Take the Eagles. They were dominated in Dallas, but is that a mulligan for a week, a team waiting in ambush for another team on the road for the second consecutive week? Or is that a sign of trouble with the Eagles? We'll go with a lean more toward the first point, which is why the Eagles don't go out of the top 10. But Dallas does have to move into it, and does have to be above the Eagles. Five of the teams in this top 10 lost this past weekend. That's either a sign that we truly have parity or we have no idea who is really any good. The only definite right now is the Colts are the best team. Those old Dolphins, who celebrate like heck when the last unbeaten team falls every year, might be forced to hold off on any cork popping until early November. This Colts team won't lose until then at the earliest. The rankings for Oct. 11: POWER RANKINGS Current Team Previous 1 Indianapolis Colts 1 The defense continues to dominate and they're on cruise control until they face the Patriots next month. The offense still isn't at full throttle. 2 Pittsburgh Steelers 3 That was a big-time road victory Monday night, but if Ben Roethlisberger is out for a long time, it will be a costly one. One has to wonder what will happen if he's out. 3 Denver Broncos 8 At 4-1, they have to feel pretty good about their start. They do have to play better than they did against the Redskins, who actually handled them in losing. 4 New England Patriots 10 There were many out there ready to bury this team. Not so fast. There's too much fight for that to happen. Plus, they have Tom Brady and Adam Vinatieri. 5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 6 Without Cadillac Williams, the quarterback play had to be better and it wasn't. Now they get a tough test with Miami coming to Tampa. 6 Washington Redskins 7 They outplayed Denver in every area except for the scoreboard. This team might be better than we all thought. 7 Cincinnati Bengals 5 So do we really know how good this team is yet? They played well in Jacksonville, but good teams have to win those games to be considered elite. 8 Dallas Cowboys 16 What they did to the Eagles was impressive. Now they get the Giants in another key divisional showdown. 9 Philadelphia Eagles 2 They limp into their bye week. And really, it couldn't come at a better time. Donovan McNabb needs the rest. 10 Atlanta Falcons 4 They found out life without Mike Vick doesn't mean they can't compete. But the defense let them down. 11 New York Giants 11 They come off a bye week feeling good about their start. A victory at Dallas on Sunday will tell a bunch about this team. 12 Jacksonville Jaguars 13 After knocking the Bengals from the unbeaten ranks, they get the Steelers on the road. If it's without Roethlisberger, they'll be thrilled about that. 13 Miami Dolphins 12 Ricky Williams returns? Is that a good thing? Or does it take away carries that Ronnie Brown needs? 14 Seattle Seahawks 15 Props to this group for winning a big road game. They look to have a firm grasp on a weak division. 15 San Diego Chargers 9 This might be one of the best 2-3 teams ever. They've lost three games after leading in the fourth quarter. Ouch. 16 Carolina Panthers 17 Coming back from 10 down in the fourth quarter against the Cardinals was impressive. They do have to work on that pass defense. 17 Kansas City Chiefs 18 Did the Chiefs find a defense during their bye week? If not, it's going to be a long season. 18 St. Louis Rams 19 How will this team respond without coach Mike Martz? One thing that has to improve is the awful defense. 19 Detroit Lions 28 Look who's in first place in the NFC North. For all the troubles they've had so far, they came to life against the Ravens. Can it continue? 20 New York Jets 26 Can they make the playoffs with Vinny Testaverde? That's to be determined, but they are better on offense with him. 21 Buffalo Bills 24 Now that the quarterback issue is resolved, look for the Bills to pick up their play. This team has talent on both sides of the ball. 22 Oakland Raiders 25 They come off their bye week with a chance to get back in the division race with a key game against the Chargers. Are they ready to make a run? 23 Cleveland Browns 23 Romeo Crennel and his staff deserve lots of praise for the way they have this undermanned team playing. Trent Dilfer keeps making plays at key times. 24 Chicago Bears 21 The offense is pedestrian, but that's what you get with a rookie quarterback. If the defense made stops in the fourth quarter, they would have beaten Cleveland, so it's not all on Kyle Orton. 25 Minnesota Vikings 20 Did the bye week do this team any good? If not, the coach will be looking for work soon -- no matter what the owner has said. 26 Baltimore Ravens 22 What in the heck is wrong with this team? We knew the offense would struggle, but now the defense is as well? It doesn't look pretty, that's for sure. 27 Tennessee Titans 27 Like we said before the season, this is a young team that will fight all year long. Steve McNair had a good day in Houston. 28 Green Bay Packers 30 They're decimated by injuries, but Brett Favre can still get it done. Getting that first victory might get this team started. 29 New Orleans Saints 14 It only gets worse for this team as Deuce McAllister is lost for season. Can they regroup? Or is this season lost? 30 Arizona Cardinals 29 Josh McCown is putting up impressive numbers, but there are still too many mistakes. They're the same Cardinals in a lot of respects. 31 San Francisco 49ers 31 There will be some trying times with a rookie quarterback. At least the defense played better. 32 Houston Texans 32 Just when we think it can't get any worse, it does. What do they do now?
Westbrook36
Power rankings are stupid. The Eagles have been number 1, at some point of the season, in just about every power ranking for the last 4 years. It means nothing at the end of the year. tr1
If you hate sportswriters when they bash your team, why would you care where they rated your team when you are good? I do agree with you. I find many of the sports writers going along with the current perception, even if it's wrong. I do believe, however, that another post today mentions something about Peter King still 'loving' the Eagles. I just wanted to share some of the love we're getting. Number5
Then again.....this was posted over in the staduim by andavy... Still have yet to crack the top ten - thanks to Pasquerelli, no doubt. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/powerranking Power Rankings: Broncos jump up to No. 2 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN.com ESPN.com's Power Rankings This week's rankings were determined by a poll of ESPN.com's NFL staff -- writers John Clayton, Len Pasquarelli, Michael Smith, NFL Insider Jeremy Green, Scouts Inc., and ESPN.com NFL editors Peter Lawrence-Riddell and James C. Black. There was a lot of moving around in our top 10. Obviously, the Colts remain on top after another impressive defensive performance, but after that, the next eight teams in our top 10 are all in different spots. The Broncos jumped from No. 8 all the way to No. 2 after beating the Redskins to improve to 4-1. The Steelers moved up to No. 3 with an impressive win on Monday night. But if Ben Roethlisberger ends up being out for a considerable amount of time, Pittsburgh's hold on a top spot could be in trouble. After falling out of the top 5 for the first time since the 2003 season, the Patriots jumped backup to No. 4. At the other end of the rankings, the Texans kept a strong hold on the last spot, remaining the NFL's only winless team. On to the rankings. Also, you can rank the teams yourself with SportsNation's NFL Power Rankings. 2005 Power Rankings: Week 6 RK (LW) TEAM REC COMMENT 1 (1) Colts 5-0-0 If the Colts keep up their current pace, they'll allow less than 100 points this year. Last year they gave up 351 2 (8) Broncos 4-1-0 Tatum Bell -- 127 yards on 12 carries in Sunday's win over the Redskins -- has clearly demonstrated that he's Denver most explosive option at running back. 3 (6) Steelers 3-1-0 Pretty impressive win for the Steelers against a red-hot Chargers team. But obviously, losing Ben Roethlisberger would be a huge blow. 4 (9) Patriots 3-2-0 Can anyone be surprised by the way Tom Brady played? That said, the secondary is a big problem. 5 (3) Bengals 4-1-0 Bengals lost their first game, but they fought hard and came back. A good sign for a young team still learning. 6 (2) Eagles 3-2-0 The Eagles are good, but you can't expect to keep winning games in which you fall behind 14 or 17 points. 7 (4) Falcons 3-2-0 Yes, Matt Schaub played well. But any of you who think the Falcons would be better with him than Vick, get a grip. 8 (7) Chargers 2-3-0 Flying high off of two performances that saw the offense put up over 40 points, the Chargers have to be bitterly disappointed by their prime-time loss to the Steelers. 9 (5) Buccaneers 4-1-0 Obviously the Bucs just aren't the same on offense without Cadillac Williams in the lineup. 10 (10) Giants 3-1-0 Eli still has a better passer rating and more TDs than big brother Peyton. You better believe that's come up in convo at least once. 11 (11) Redskins 3-1-0 The Redskins aren't pretty, but they've proved that they're for real. They look like they'll be in the playoff hunt in the NFC all season. 12 (12) Jaguars 3-2-0 Fred Taylor's performance against the Bengals -- 132 yards on 24 carries -- had to be extremely encouraging to the Jaguars. They need Taylor to be a playoff team. 13 (13) Panthers 3-2-0 It might have been premature to start doubting the Panthers after their Week 3 loss in Miami. 14 (17) Cowboys 3-2-0 Cowboys jumped on the Eagles early and just never let them up. That was a pretty impressive performance. 15 (14) Chiefs 2-2-0 The Chiefs are talking about re-thinking their Priest Holmes-Larry Johnson RB rotation. If Johnson's carries get cut, you can expect an unhappy running back. 16 (16) Seahawks 3-2-0 It's still kind of stunning to see that the league's second-leading receiver in Week 5 was ... Joe Jurevicius (9 catches, 137 yds., 1 TD). 17 (15) Dolphins 2-3-0 All eyes will be on Miami and what kind of an impact Ricky Williams has in his first game back. 18 (18) Rams 2-3-0 Just a message to Mike Martz to get well soon. 19 (25) Bills 2-3-0 The Bills needed a win and that's what Kelly Holcomb got them. 20 (29) Jets 2-3-0 Vinny and the Jets. Jets fans are signing a happy tune after Testaverde's triumphant return in a huge win. 21 (27) Browns 2-3-0 He doesn't get the credit he deserves, but there are at least 10 other teams in the NFL who would take Trent Dilfer as their starting QB. 22 (28) Titans 2-3-0 Congratulations to Jarrett Payton, son of the late Walter Payton, on his first NFL TD. 23 (26) Lions 2-2-0 It might not have been pretty, but the Lions desperately needed a win and that's what they got. It might sound weird, but the Lions are a first place team. 24 (21) Raiders 1-3-0 Kerry Collins has been perfect in regards to one thing so far: No INTs. 25 (23) Vikings 1-3-0 When you start bringing in 'consultants' to help out the coaching staff, that can't be a good sign. 26 (31) Packers 1-4-0 Wow, a visit by the Saints and 51 points sure can turn a gloomy situation into a sort of sunny one. Or at least sunny for an NFC North team. 27 (22) Bears 1-3-0 The Bears have to be kicking themselves for giving up 14 fourth-quarter points to lose to the Browns. In the weak NFC North, squandering a win is huge. 28 (19) Saints 2-3-0 Were pretty sure that no team in recent memory has moved up and down the Power Rankings quite like the Saints. 29 (24) Cardinals 1-4-0 Cardinals aren't living up to some of the preseason expectations, but Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin have been as good as advertised. The two have combined for 72 catches and 1047 yards through five games. 30 (20) Ravens 1-3-0 21 penalties for 147 yards, four personal fouls and two players ejected. Maybe it wasn't the best day for the refs, but that's just embarrassing. 31 (30) 49ers 1-4-0 Tough team for Alex Smith to get his first start against. The Colts came after the rookie all day, sacking him five times and forcing four INTs. 32 (32) Texans 0-4-0 As big a fantasy bust as Daunte Culpepper has been, there can't be a bigger bust than Andre Johnson. He has 10 catches for 76 yards and zero TDs. So as far as I can tell, it's 2 polls to 1
Chachie
Gentlemen- I get the impression that the power rankings reflect the current or recent "momentum" of NFL teams. By no means are the Redskins the 6th best team in the league, and by no means are the Giants, Cowboys or Eagles "worse" than the Redskins. (Although Dallas still has to prove that. ) It's a weekly rundown of momentum. It only exists in the "now" and means nothing. It's nice to see my Redskins getting some looks from the media but they are as gullible today as they have always been. So are the fans of every team. Myself included. Nobody knows from week to week what's going to happen (except Andyman) and we will all cheer when it's good for us and whine when it's bad. having said all that- Nanny nanny boo-boo, stick your NFC East opponent heads in doo-doo. See bro, you had to mess the thread up by being all adult in it! Anyways, here's another poll.....one that actually I respect..... Vic C from nfl.com http://nfl.com/news/story/8952328 Oct. 11, 2005) -- This is how the NFL's 32 teams stack up after Week 5: IN THE HUNT (Teams that look good enough to be among the 12 playoff qualifiers but not based on conference -- listed with record and previous week's ranking) 1. Indianapolis (5-0; unchanged): Alone in perfection, the Colts aren't likely to have a warm Monday Night Football reception for Rams interim coach Joe Vitt. 2. Denver (4-1; 7): The Broncos had just enough to hold off the Redskins, but can their rebuilt defense handle Tom Brady? 3. New England (3-2; 9): Tom Brady's ability to carry this banged-up team on his right arm is amazing. 4. Pittsburgh (3-1; unchanged): Winning in San Diego was huge, but the price (losing Ben Roethlisberger to a knee injury) could be larger. 5. Cincinnati (4-1; unchanged): The Bengals have tripped, but they haven't fallen. 6. Tampa Bay (4-1; 2): The Buccaneers need to find their offensive rhythm. 7. Jacksonville (3-2; unranked): Fred Taylor will need to be every bit as effective rushing against the Steelers as he was against the Bengals. 8. Atlanta (3-2; 6): With or without Michael Vick, the Falcons should get back on the winning track against New Orleans. 9. Philadelphia (3-2; 3): After a draining win in Kansas City and a lopsided loss in Dallas, the timing couldn't be better for some rest and reflection. 10. N.Y. Giants (3-1; unchanged): With his red-hot arm rested, Eli Manning gets to see if he can succeed where Donovan McNabb couldn't against the Cowboys defense. 11. Washington (3-1; 8): The Redskins hope to continue the trend of Kansas City opponents exposing the Chiefs defense. 12. Dallas (3-2; unranked): Fortunately for the Cowboys, their fury isn't limited to sideline spats between Drew Bledsoe and Keyshawn

Folks (We ignorant, arrogant, knuckle headed, un-intellegent Eagles fans) was getting ready to verbally abuse someone quick (hmmmmm....wonder whom? )! We need your good nature humor and rational thoughts to calm some of us (mainly me :redpunch: ) down! Man, I gotta tell you about my Madden 2006 season so far! I had to trade a Philly budding star for a Skin budding star......now I've become one of his bigger fans, and he hasn't done squat so far as I have seen this year except loss to Tatum Bell in a foot race! Andyman is God. I agree, anyone can win or lose on any given Sunday...it just feels so great to have a competitive team again! And, it's a shame some fans rooting for other teams can't see that half of my posts are in jest...maybe I should start using <jesting>, <provoking>, etc. But I like these fellas...they're okay.
