TODD
The right-side of the Yankee defense should take credit for what the score is right now. How many friggin' times can you screw up a flare hit or a play at the wall or a damn grounder to first base. None of these are errors, but you can't put all of those five runs on Mussina. A half-way decent defense would have escaped with one or two runs on the board. I think the Yanks have the fire-power to take back this game... should be a good one... unless the Angels' keep slapping the ball to right field  Randy Johnson in now... Heidenreich
Todd, you hit it right on the head. Defense won that series for Anaheim. They caught everything. A nice play by Erstad on Matsui's hit to end the game. Arod, the best player in the game if you're up or down by six runs........
Spaceman Spiff
And that, Yankees fans, is proof why you can't buy a World Series. All the hired guns can't make a team. I'd wish them luck next year but I can't stand a fair amount of their players, their owner, or their fans (present company excluded). Here's to 80+ years of them going without a World Series. I'd love to see them revert to the way they were in the early 90's.

The Sir
A-Rod sucked So did the ump who made that ruling saying he was running off the baseline. RALLY MONKEY!!!!
TODD
Todd, are you a Yanks fan? Nats fan... I root for the Yanks come playoff time, but not very hard. They make every series more watchable by just being the Yankees. I mean, come on, which series is more engaging... Angels/White Sox or Yankees/White Sox? I'll take the Yankee Stadium mystique 10 times out of 10, especially so I don't have to watch a downright noisy Anaheim Stadium game. As much as I hate the Red Sox, the playoffs are more fun when they're in there. Atleast the NL will see a great series with some great pitching matchups. TODD
A-Rod sucked So did the ump who made that ruling saying he was running off the baseline. I think I might be in agreement with the ump on that call. FOX and Joe Buck put more credence in the call being made when Cano was closing in on first base. My take on it was that Cano was running on the inside of the baseline on the first half of the run to first and that's why Cano was called out. I have a feeling Torre will say something about what the umpire said to him in the post-game conference.
jcameronmk
Yankees deserve the 8th circle of hell. And they'll get it. Go Angels! I'll go for whoever comes out of the NL. I've never been a fan of the DH rule. Seems so fake.

I was actually thinking about what a non-Yankees ALCS means for many baseball fans: not watching. I agree about the mystique of the Yankees in that it makes watching the playoffs, if you hate them or love them, a lot more interesting. Plus, living in NYC, it's fun to see the papers either shred the Yankees or one of their opponents with some horrific puns. Is your hate for the Sox borne largely out of your slight fandom for the Yanks or becuase some Sox fans, especially those that have become fans of the team since last summer, are obnoxious? (As I think you know I'm a Sox fan, but also, which I'm not sure you knew, a Nats fan.)
rincewind
a few Yankees things that will go unnoticed about this game (mainly because of A-Rod being A-Rod): 1. Matsui was the real choke artist (not that A-Rod didn't try his hardest to win the award). I mean 8 lob? Is that a new playoff record? 2. Randy Johnson stepped up. He was of course overshadowed by Santana. Further proving guys named Santana make great athletes. 3. Derek Jeter is still the most clutch guy in the game. He did everything he could to allow A-Rod to become mister big time.

The latter by a landslide, especially being a youngin', they're impossible. One of my professors asked the class yesterday who is Red Sox fan and only one person raised their hand... and you KNOW if he had asked a week ago half the class would have raised their hand. I don't mind the true Sox fans because they've been waiting to win, just as I have with my Washington teams.

mjah
lol, i cant stand that. same as on the radio....thhhhhhhheeeeeee pitch, it is so annoying!! I don't understand how Yankee fans can stand listening to that broadcast. Talk about obnoxious. A couple of weeks ago I had the unique experience of listening to a Yankees-Red Sox game while driving through New York and Boston, so I heard the first half of the game on the Yankees homer broadcast and the second half on the Boston homer broadcast. I can't tell you how relieved I was when the Boston broadcast came into range. From that obnoxious, worthless carnival trinket "theeeeee pitch" to the fact the announcers were reading ads at every single at-bat, I couldn't stand listening to the Yankee broadcast. One thing I will give them is the fact that they were relatively objective with their praise and criticism after the first inning. But I can't imagine listening to that broadcast on a summer afternoon and actually enjoying the experience. They have far too many things going on at once in the booth. Made me feel sorry for radio-equipped Yankee fans.
