SkinnedAussie
Well, what can I say! Due to the time difference, I've just had an all nighter (didn't realise we had the 'late' game), so I'm close to calling an end to my day (it's currently 11.15am Monday morning). Following the game on nfl.com GameCentre (which can be painfully slow at the best of times, and no visuals), I said to myself after Denver's third TD, to go 21-10 up, that Denver has just breached our scoring threshold, knowing our ability to score 20+ points in regulation time (is it once since the start of last year?), that we gunna lose by 2 points. I could have gone to bed about then, but decided to ride it out in the hope I'd be proved wrong. Anyways, I'm sure the refs performances will come under scrutiny, in particular the non-safety, but I have a couple of rules questions that I would like answered. From the Bronco game: Third Quarter 4-2-DEN20(7:34) N.Novak 38 yard field goal is BLOCKED (T.Pryce), Center-E.Albright, Holder-D.Frost, RECOVERED by DEN-A.Wilson at DEN 24. A.Wilson to DEN 40 for 16 yards (E.Albright; R.Thomas). Penalty on WAS-N.Novak, Illegal Bat, declined. What is an illegal bat? Thought this was something that it used in baseball! From last weeks game v Seattle: Fourth Quarter 1-10-SEA26(7:11) M.Hasselbeck pass to D.Jackson pushed ob at SEA 33 for 7 yards (M.Bowen). PENALTY on SEA, Illegal Touch Pass, 5 yards, enforced at SEA 26 - No Play. What is a touch pass, and how is it illegal? I have a couple of others that I'm not sure of, but can't think of them at this time of severe sleep deprivation.
iheartskins
The illegal bat refers to the contact with the ball that our holder did after the FG was blocked. He did like a volleyball set with the football--apparently that's illegal. I'm not sure abou tthe other one.

Th illegal touch (if i am thinking of the same play you are refering to) comes from a player stepping out of bounds and then coming in-bounds and being the first player to touch the ball
SkinnedAussie
Hmm, ok, so if it was something our holder did wrong, why was it called on our kicker?
iheartskins
Hmm, ok, so if it was something our holder did wrong, why was it called on our kicker? I guess it was actually our kicker who took a play from the volleyball textbook. I could have sworn it was the holder, Frost, but if not, my mistake. SkinnedAussie
Thx iheartskins, and please don't get me wrong (I haven't seen any footage), but I'm taking my questions word from word from the play-by-play at nfl.com. The illegal bat question was the blocked field goal, I think.
SkinnedAussie
Th illegal touch (if i am thinking of the same play you are refering to) comes from a player stepping out of bounds and then coming in-bounds and being the first player to touch the ball That happened in the Cinci - Jax game when a punt was called back for a player going OOB, then coming back in and being the first to taouch the ball (to down it). I'm asking if anyone knows what an illegal touch PASS is.
Fergasun
Jackson caught the ball after going out of bounds. Same rule applies.
