Longpaite
Hi Guys, I am from Alexandria, VA. Growing up, I watched the 'Skins every Sunday. One of my earliest memories was of the Redskins playing the Dolphins at home, and Theismann getting rushed by two Miami linemen who had broken through the line simultaneously. Theismann popped the ball out long before he was hit. But that was Theismann, as some of us may remember. I never liked him after that, but it never mattered much. I remember a late 70's game Pardee coached against the Chargers (believe we won). Then came coach Gibbs, and I remember Darrel in Chicago. Dave Butz, Brad Dusek, Mark Moseley, The Great but troubled Dex, Charles the Mann, Riggo my hero, Russ, Joe, Mark, and on. We knew so many of their names each year, because each made their small gift every Sunday. After those years we hosted so many toys and churls, who ate away at the Redskins. We placed our faith in names instead of the Redskins spirit. And we lost, and lost, and lost. And the clear lesson here is: We must never again buy into a name, buy into even a talent. We the Redskins must devote ourselves only to high character. For the last several years we have seen teams built on talent alone. They win on talent, then continue to win on psychological dominance. But the quickly disintegrate in free agency. This year's Redskins are a team not based on talent alone, but a recipe of talent AND character. That's why, despite every statistic and prognostication, we are 3-0. When the players are home, we scream the loudest. When they are afield, they know we are with them in thought and spirit. The difference this year is that this team knows we are with them wherever they are. Now, I have lived in China for seven years. The only thing I can't live without is my Redskins. I can follow the games on the internet. NFL.com gives a good play-by-play if my schedule allows. It's like following a game in the 30's or 40's before TV. But from China I can be with you, and love my Redskins as they plow through the ****e. So I'm doing just fine. I love my Redskins, and I love you guys too. Hail To The Redskins! Nice post - and how incredible is it that we've got a Redskin's fan checking in from China I'm a couple years older, but I grew up in Alexandria too (in fact, I'd love to know where exactly you grew up?). You might be very interested in something I'm working on for this evening. Check the board out later today if you can, I've got a treat in store for you. Welcome! Longpaite
nice post.add ricky, gary, art, and clint and that list is complete I stand addended! I'd say 'Those were the years', except I feel the same now. How many names come into our ear every game? A host of them, all Redskins. Other teams drone on about the same 0.25, but all of ours contribute. Tarhog, just off Mt. Vernon Ave., in Warwick village, Tennessee Ave.
deiulay
Funny, I had a job offer in China. An American Chinese born in DC, te only thing American about my father was football. Growing up the only shared interest was the redskins. about the same time I got the job offer I got the letter from the Redskins, you're next! So I turned down a great job and an oppurtunity to live in China for my season tickets. I can't leave the area because of those 10 (hopefully more) days a year I am at home with my family of 92000+. Aint nothing better than a Sunday afternoon at fedex.........well, maybe Monday night!:gaintsuck:eaglesuck:dallasuck

s0crates
This is one of the best posts I've seen in a while. Great stuff, representing the Redskins in China! I love it! I grew up on Gary, Art, and Ricky. . .
tr1
Excellent post...I hope we keep hearing from you. I, too, felt horrible after Gibbs left the first time. When Norv came here and was asked a question about Dallas, he used 'we' in the response. I knew then it was going to be a long, bitter tenure. JCK made one mistake with the Redskins...hiring Norv. Norv was used to big personalities dominating his team...it isn't the Redskins way...
Longpaite
Thanks for the kind responses, guys. You know, before I moved to the Chinese Mainland, I lived in Taiwan for many years, and occasionally I'd see someone sporting a redskins jacket or shirt. Imagine my pleased surprise! Some Taiwanese are always trying to cultivate an ethnic mystique in impotent hope of appearing less Chinese. Some of the true ethnic minorities in Taiwan DO bear a striking resemblence to native Americans in both physical appearance and traditions such as dress and dance. Unfortunately, American football is rarely reported on here in China, so I have to follow my 'Skins entirely online. This last week was a week-long holiday in China, which I spent with my wife two hours away (long story). Well, I was itching to find out how we did in the Seattle game but wasn't allowed to use one of the cyber cafe's so ubiquitous here. So on Tuesday I hopped on the bus and two hours later was in my workplace (where my computer is kept), and I learned we'd won. My wife laughed at me, but to me it was four hours very well spent! :logo:
chrisa5
I also spent my childhood in Alexandria until I was 12 or 13. The first Redskins game I watched all the way through was the 1982 NFC Championship game against the Cowboys. I was about 9 or 10 years old. Liked them my whole life but never sit still long enough to watch a game through until then. The one biggest thing they show this year that they had back then is heart. This team seems to have a totally different attitude than they did last year. I think Coach is weeding out the riff raff.
Longpaite
Yeah, I remember that game. Isn't that when Danny White got the snot clobbered out of him and had to leave with a concussion? It was a gray, cold, sometimes rainy day. In short... perfect redskins football weather! I agree with you, this year's team has a huge amount of heart. Those cold, fat-arsed mebers of the media can boo-hoo that all they want, but heart will win games that talent alone can't. I also agree with you 100% about coach weeding out the chaff. It's long overdue! :kungfu: It's a TEAM again, and a team, coached by Gibbs, has no limits! HTTR! :broncosuc
chrisa5
Yes, thats when Danny White got knocked out of the game. I remember it was cold and gray and blowing snow. Every time they would show the crowd, they was going nuts. I'm glad that game was kind of my official introduction to Redskins vs. Cowboys.
