Not trying to offend you but, your personal favorite aint the real #56. The real # 56 is LA's hero--- Lawrence Taylor :notworthy However, you did get Ronnie Lott right... The best ever.

Yeah, LT owns 56, he's the reason Arrington wanted the number, dude's his idol for a reason -- arguably the best LB ever. Lavar's got a long way to go to be part of that conversation.

I'm guessing Steve Largent might like to be considered when talking about #80.

I agree about your LaVar quote. LT is his idol.

But as far as the #80 go's, IMO Jerry Rice own's that number.

I really like LaVar. I hope he gets his mind right so he can help us be even more dominant than we are. But, he will never be better than LT. Not even in the same ballpark. I was sure hoping he would be when we first got him. But LT was one of a kind.

Besides, just going by Redskins, LaVar has yet to take over from the best #56 to date. Len Hauss.

#42 - Charley Taylor.

I was actually thinking about Charley at #42...you've got to have best offensive and best defensive players to wear certain numbers. Obviously there won't be any defensive players with #80...although Troy Brown did play some D last year! :D

5- Curt Knight K

6- slim pickins with this number, I'll go with Shane Matthews QB

45- Speedy Duncan DB/KR

46- Frank Grant WR

47- Dick James RB

48- Stephen Davis RB

49- Bobby Mitchell RB/WR

50- going slightly off book here again.....Ravin Caldwell LB (solid LB who was a starter at times....but he gets my nod for his most famous play....running down the field on kick coverage without a helmet, nailing the return guy...head first and making the tackle and knocking himself out in the process...he made the team that night in the 1987 preseason and that play allows him to "own" #50 for me)

51- Monte Coleman LB

52- Neal Olkewicz LB

53- Jeff Bostic C

54- Kurt Gouveia LB (though I was tempted to give it to "Cronan the Barbarian")

55- Chris Hanburger LB (how this man is not in the Hall of Fame is beyond me)

56- Len Hauss C (Love LaVar....but he hasn't played long enough to take the number from Hauss)

57- Ken Harvey LB (best move of the Casserly/Norv error-era)

90- Kenard Lang DL

91- Greg Manusky LB

92- Daryl Gardner DT

93- Marc Boutte DT

94- Dana Stubblefield DT (not for his play...but he was such a lightning rod and there is really no one else...unless you want to give it to Sean Gilbert because of the picks we recouped from Carolina signing him)

95- Dan Wilkinson DT

96- Cornelius Griffin DT

97- Renaldo Wynn DE (Jump Geathers was a role player at the end of his career and Sterling Palmer had flashes....Renaldo's been steady if unspectacular for 4 seasons now)

The above I disagree with. But your list was pretty good.

12- Steve Cox (Who else could kick those long field goals at the end of the half)

22 - Rosey Taylor (A Much better DB then Pearl HArbor Man himself)

31 - Charlie HArraway. How could you miss this one.

87 - Jerry Smith Don't think many would argue this one.

89 - The Original Smurf Alvin Garrett

Good points.

I totally zoned on Jerry Smith. You're 100% right, he owns 87. I think I might have been to quick to "honor" a childhood player I loved and totally missed Jerry.

As for Alvin Garrett, he had a great 82 playoff run after Art got hurt, but I think I'll stick with Terry Orr (though he too wore 87 for a couple of seasons).

i was thinking ronnie lott for 42 defensively - i mean this guy was like a mack truck on any given second, if u had the ball on his half or zone u would have been drove on. it was like watching amzing hit videos when he would play.

curious who was it that started the rule no head to head contact? ronnie did that im sure of it. ok well not completely but seems like a can recall many head to head shots with helmets flying
