hail2skins Posted September 28, 2005 Share Posted September 28, 2005 The threads about the offense, Brunell vs. Ramsey, etc. have sparked my memory back to the QB controversy of 2000. You remember it, right....... 2000: Norv is our coach, Brad Johnson (QB who led us to playoffs previous year) starts the season, and offense looks shaky as Skins start out 1-2. Win over division rival on the road starts five-game winning streak. However, defense largely carries team during streak, and during streak......how many people on this board were calling for Jeff George (free agent QB who had also led his team to playoffs in '99) to replace Brad at QB? I don't know if it was a majority of the board but it was a pretty good amount. 2005: The legendary Joe Gibbs is coach, Patrick Ramsey (young QB who has been somewhat mistaken prone and has had some injuries in his 3 years) looks shaky in preseason and, after a few more mistakes in the season opener, gets replaced by Mark Brunell, who looked like ish last year due to (injury/playcalling/bad line/bad receivers). Team is 2-0, including win over archrival with two great passes, but angst is still there over the performance of the offense. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out and how the board's reaction is similar or different to the first half of the 2000 season. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The kickers were TERRIBLE! We could have still made the playoffs but Daniel Snyder didnt give Norv a chance. Thats the year we beat the Ravens when they won the Super Bowl. I really thought that was our year to win it all. Remember how everybody made a BIG DEAL out of everybody we signed? CBMGreatOne Posted September 28, 2005 Share Posted September 28, 2005 LOL, that Jacksonville game was Albert Connell's whole career practically. He had something like 265 yards and 3 TDs. I kid you not. Quite a fantasy day. I was on this board back in 2000 and during the winning streak there really wasn't much bench BJ sentiment. It took until we started to collapse down the stretch before we finally started getting into that discussion. That JG game against St. Louis was an awesome moment too, although it followed a loss to the woeful Cardinals in which Kris Heppner missed like a 38 yard potential game winner. The Eddie Murray kick wasn't quite 49 yards, I think it was more like 45. JG definitely had his moments while he was here, but boy was he awful in the first 3 or 4 Martyball games. It seems like I remember there were a lot of rumblings about his arm getting tired towards the end of the year b/c he was trying to throw the ball as hard as Jeff George. That snowball effect was horrible. Classic Norv. Tale of two types of seasons wrapped in one (1996, 1998, 2000). -Beating the world champ Rams on their turf. Late in the game they were showing our bench and Rams fans were taunting Connell and Conell basically looked at them and said "see the scoreboard? Now what?"
