WASHINGTON - You've seen him in the movies, "Good Will Hunting," "Pearl Harbor" and "Daredevil." But could Ben Affleck's next role be as an elected official?

The Washington Post is reporting that Virginia Democrats are tossing around Affleck's name as a potential challenger to Sen. George Allen, R-Va., next year.

Affleck and his wife, actress Jennifer Garner, are expecting. They've been looking for a house in the Charlottesville area.

A spokesman for Affleck says the rumors are baseless.

So far no Democratic candidates have emerged for the 2006 race against Allen.

Virginia Gov. Mark Warner on WTOP's Ask the Governor program laughed when Affleck's name was mentioned.

"I'm not sure who's stirring that one up," the Democrat said, adding that he'd be surprised if Affleck ran.

Warner also doesn't think author John Grisham, who is a friend of his, will run.

Four years ago, in a separate race, Democats in Virginia did not field a candidate to run against Sen. John Warner, R-Va.

This is horrible. The republicants get a bad actor with broad appeal in Ah-nold and the dems get the bad actor who most people suspect of having snuggled Matt Damon at least once. No thanks!

There is only one actor born to fight Ah-nold in the political arena. Dolph Lundgren. Anyone know if he's alive and can be convinced to run as a democrat?

How about Jean-Claude Van Dam? He's a womanizer (like arnold was) and has even less of a grasp on English than Arnold.

JCVD in 2006!

Well heck, if Sonny Bono, Stever Largent and Cooter from Dukes of Hazzard can be politicians, why not Affleck? He certainly needs something to do, since his movies ain't cutting it.

Actually, if you ever watch Good Will Hunting, he was really excellent in that. He needs to choose his roles better.

He's not going to run anytime soon, but I wouldn't be surprised if the guy actually does have a future in politics. He was on CNN a couple times during the election and he consistently came off better than the actual politicians. He seemed to have a better grasp of the issues and wasn't blindly loyal to the party line. As a general rule, I hate when actors (especially bad ones like Affleck) get involved in politics, but I wouldn't write him off so quickly.
