Very good movie. I like that type of ensemble movie, if they are well done. Here are some others that I liked:

Traffic

Grand Canyon

Boogie Nights

Magnolia

Nashville

Usual Suspects - Not really the same type of ensemble, but d@mn good.

good movie. overtly racist at the beginning, but i guess that was the point...

the 2nd half was much better, and i like how everyone that was a **** at the beginning learned a lesson, or was able to make ammends...except the persian owner and of couse the rookie.

I saw it while I was on vacation. I'm not really sure how I feel about the movie. By the way people reacted to it on this board, perhaps I should see it again.

No...for me, it was a little preachy. The director was trying to get his point across too hard. It was enjoyable, but I like a little more thematic subtlety in the movies I watch; I don't like getting slammed over the head with the message. Just my opinion though.

check out Layer Cake

Another iffy movie that I would hesitate to recommend. It was okay; but Lock Stock and Snatch are so much better that it kind of makes this movie sort of blah. You can tell it was completely pirating from them, trying to piggy back on their success. I think it falls well short of the probably unreachable mark set by Lock Stock.

(if you haven't seen it, or don't know what I'm talking about, I mean "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells" written and directed by Guy Ritchie. Amazing movie.)

Agreed about 4LayerCake. It wasn't all that. I liked Lock, Stock...But, despite the fact that Brad Pitt was in it, I really LOVED Snatch. Easily in my top 5 favorites. The characters combined with the accents cracked me up. Quality movie.

Snatch was good, I definitely enjoyed that movie, but Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells is by far the better of the two movies. It fits together so perfectly...but I love both movies; I own them both! :D

Yea Lock Stock had a much better story-plot, love the ending too. Snatch had better characters though.

I also own both ;)

Layer Cake was aight.

Yeah, I don't want to ruin the ending for those who haven't seen it (who hasn't seen Lock Stock!?!??!), but isn't it the perfect ending? I don't think there is a better ending in a movie than that one. Great stuff.

I thought Crash was fantastic after I saw it... then I thought back about the message of the movie. There is nothing positive to take away from the experience. It basically states the obvious: People that are saints can be monsters and vice versa. What good does that do anyone? If these film makers really wanted to be racey, they should have offered up some solutions. But then again, maybe there are none.

Not all movies offer solutions. But it wasn't an antiplot movie--more of a multiplot with all of the different plots coming together by the end of the movie.

It had character development, so it wasn't a character study. Hmm, not sure why a movie should offer solutions.

There are a few things I'd take from the movie.

Not all prejudices are created equal. Some are based on absurdity, while others are just observations that turn out to be true more often than we like to admit. Some are the basis for evil conduct, like Matt Dillon's character before the crash.

It also taught that one should not always judge a book by its cover, but sometimes that judging is correct. For instance, that locksmith dude looked rough, but he was a family guy. However, Sandra Bullock's reaction to Larenz Tate and Ludacris might have been based on more than race.

I also really liked Tate and Ludacris' dialogue. It brought into stark relief the view of the paranoiac obsessed with race(while confirming EVERY stereotype)

and the more reasoned person, who while imperfect, understand that the truth is somewhere in the middle of the ostrich and the paranoiac.

Put bluntly, there are some truths to these views, like it or not. But they should not be the basis for how you treat individuals and you should be careful how comfortable you are with your assumptions, as the wrong judgment can cost you your life(spiritually or physically.)

I liked it, but with some strong reservations. It was defnitely too "preachy" as was said earlier. I think that the dialogue was very unnatural and clunky. Only a few of the actors were able to pull it off without sounding ridiculous. These were Don Cheadle, the guy who's wife got felt up, and suprisingly enough "Ludacris." Also, I have a problem with the fact that it was trying too hard to be a 2 hour version of Magnolia. However, I can't say I didn't enjoy watching it. I can't say it didn't make any good points. And I'm a sucker for anything with divine intervention.

Since I mentioned it, I should say in every single way, Magnolia is a superior film to Crash. Even though I would say that Magnolia is worse that Paul Thomas Anderson's oher two well-known films. I read the script for there will be blood, and I predict that it won't be his best. It's still gonna be pretty good though.
