refuze
Just give me some basic ideas and thoughts.. I'm really struggling with this. Don't know where to begin. I'm finding this class to be real bull****, I don't know why I took it. In the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, nearly 80,000 people are left unemployed. FEMA is developing an application/interview process to properly categorize people into the correct occupational fields. The people at FEMA who have this responsibilty don't have the proper understanding of psychological nature of jobs/careers... Your help is needed to enable FEMA to properly place those left jobless because of the hurricane. You need to develop a test with questions that reflect the different psychological considerations in various fields of employment. I have no idea what type of jobs are there in New Orleans in the first place.

refuze
What kind of psychology class is it? Just basic introduction. They basically cover everything. I thought it would be interesting, but I'm finding it really tedious.
JimboDaMan
Forget the FEMA bs. My guess is that this assignment was coming anyway, the instructor changed the wording to try making it more "relevant". Just answer the question. "Do you like physical activity?" Maybe an athelete. "Do you like discovering new things?" Maybe a scientist. "Do you like solving puzzles?" Maybe a programmer. Etc.

It's a psychological profle test, they have these on civil service exams as well. Things like would you rather read a book or play football. . . stuff like that. Sarge
Question 1: If you were too stupid to leave in the face of a CAT 5 hurricane, what makes you think you're smart enough for a real job?
chomerics
Question 1: If you were too stupid to leave in the face of a CAT 5 hurricane, what makes you think you're smart enough for a real job? Sarge, I don't know if I should punch you or laugh. . . You are completely wrong, but there is a modicum of truth to your statement so. . . BlueTalon
Just basic introduction. They basically cover everything. I thought it would be interesting, but I'm finding it really tedious. One of my degrees is in counseling psychology. It's supposed to be a science, but I have a hard time calling anything a science that has eight mutually exclusive, contadictory theories that are all considered valid! About your assignment -- if this is an introductory course, they probably don't expect much. You might pick several jobs you know something about, for example: policeman, librarian, mechanic, cook, and trash collector. Then come up with 20 questions that each have three answers, for example: When faced with a serious problem, I tend to: A. Stay calm, and think things through by myself B. Ask a friend for help C. Panic When I have free time, I like to: A. Take a nap B. Go hiking C. Go to a club Then, correlate what you think the most likely answers would be for all 20 questions, for each of those jobs. You don't have to worry about whether or not it actually correlates, you're basically just making the stuff up. But it will probably get you a decent grade.
