RedskinzOwnU
Shannon Sharpe and the other announcers on sirius were talking about the johnson/smoot matchup this week, and they were really harping on smoot. They basically said he was all talk and no action, and that he got beat a lot more than he made plays etc. They said he was a solid corner, but far from spectacular. I'd say thats a pretty fair assessment of the guy. They said he was absolutely NOT an 11 million dollar corner. They basically he said he was, and always will be a #2 guy. I think this was a very fair assessment of the man that the general media has not hit on. Everyone always talks about how minny has "two top corners" but it was nice to hear something that was a little more accurate. Maybe people are finally seeing past smootie's mouth. I think this somewhat vindicates our decision to let him go. I certainly see a lot more potential in carlos rogers.
ThatGuy
Eh, I liked Smoot, I don't know if he's worth 11 million dollars. But the guy was good for us. No hate here.
herrmag
What? Someone thinks Smoot is overrated? What's the temperature like in hell?

TMat184
Smoot is a good player, not great mind you, but good. I liked him when he was here
bulldog
obviously the Redskins have had success coming up with new corners when the situation warrants. obviously we have had a more difficult time solving our quarterback problems. isn't it strange how we find replacement corners and safeties and yet the Ramsey saga has continued to drag on for YEARS................. dawgjk9
yeah, i agree...very solid CB..not $11M guy though. i think the QB saga is going to be solved from within..i think campbells the guy. ive been preachin it, no need to stop now. hes a threat wtih his legs and with experience he wil lbe a smart kinda QB that gibbs like....anyone remember doug williams (plus speed)... bulldog
seeing #17 on the sidelines again brought back some memories both from the Allen years with Kilmer and with Williams during the Gibbs years in the 1980s. It's been a lucky jersey around here
OldTownFan
Smoot sucked. He was all bark and no bite except for the first 8 game of last year, the only time in his career here that could be said. Then he tried to make things out like he was the next Deion Sanders. Even dumber, this guy said during contract negotians that his models were specifically Champ Bailey (who has not been as dominant in Denver by the way) and Deion Sanders (who is years removed from dominance), great role models Fred, real team player here huh? Funny thing is, he couldn't carry either of those guys' jock straps when they were at thier peaks (and Bailey could still regain his, he's young). And finally, we bring in Sean Springs to help ease the pain of losing Champ, and much to the pleasant surprise of Redskins' fans, Springs does not miss a beat, and actually last year, outplayed Champ Bailey. And forget about 11 Million Fred, one of the best corners in the league? yeah right, you weren't even close to the best corner on the team! A real dominant corner, lucky for us, can now be found wearing Champ Bailey's old number, and playing for the Redskins!
bulldog
the Redskins paid guys on defense that wanted to be here. Springs is from the area and targeted the Redskins in free agency. Griffin no doubt wanted to pay the Giants back by staying in the NFC East. Marcus Washington got to play for a DC that consistently sends linebackers to the pro bowl as a by-product of his scheme and how he uses his players................ meanwhile Smoot's bonus is $1 million higher than Shawn Springs and Pierce's bonus is the same as Marcus Washington's. now tell me again how Smoot and Pierce are as good or better than Springs and Washington?

wilbur58z
Well, Johnson already exposed Champ Bailey last year and looks like he'll be doing the same to Fred Smoot this year.
Hollywood2k3
Overrated or not, he has his hands full this week with Chad Johnson. EXACTLY!! bulldog
well, Fred Smoot wasn't a top 10 pick. Neither was Walt Harris. Shawn Springs came here as a free agent from Seattle. And Carlos Rogers despite being the #9 pick was still the THIRD corner taken in the draft
