Sept. 16: Joe Gibbs

Die Hard

Recommended Posts

Dear Joe,

We love you man, but.......

You have to admit the pulling of Ramsey looks fairly disorganized. Why did you let him have all the OTA work and pre-season snaps with the new receivers if you knew in your heart of hearts you thought he could not do the job?

What if the Cooley TD had not been called back? What then Joe? Patrick deserved more of a shot, and that's a man to man truth. You gave Mark lots of time last year. Was it because you picked him and paid so much money for him? How will you get young players like Sean Taylor, and Portis, and Cooley to trust you when you don't give a fair shot to a young promising player that has worked so hard? Ramsey has conducted himself like a true Redskin, but Joe you have not. I am disappointed in your character on this one and I think your karma and the teams fortunes will suffer because of it.

Joe don't you think you have risked too much on an old QB like Mark? He was awful last year. And when he goes into ball control mode its downright boring and usually ineffective. You respect Sonny Jurgensen I know, and he sent you a message "you can't win in this league by trying to tell the quarterback not to lose", "the quarterback has to make plays downfield". What was the use of getting all that speed at wide receiver when Mark has proven time and again that he can't throw deep?

What will you do for the fans Joe, the ones who hope so hard all offseason and endure the losing and the bashing in the national media and the horrible calls from the ref's. Joe we want a money back gaurantee on your decision!

Coach Gibbs,

With the announcement that Mark Brunell will start against Dallas, one has to figure that he will be the starting QB for the remainder of the year, barring injury. I've always been a Patrick Ramsey fan and have felt he never got a fair chance to really prove himself. My question is this: Can you HONESTLY say to Redskins fans that Patrick Ramsey was given a FAIR chance to prove himself as the starter of this team in the 2005 regular season? Playing less than 1 half of 1 game doesn't quite seem like much of a chance, especially since he has been medically cleared to return. Thanks for considering my question.

Mr. Gibbs I believe that you are the right man for the job if there ever was one. I would like to know if you are planning to stay around long enough to get the job done, however long that may take? The job of course being to win the superbowl.

That seems to be the pattern. Trent Green, Brad Johnson, Stan Humphries... And who do we end up keeping around? What is irritating about the Ramsey situation is that Gibbs had ample opportunity to cut him loose and acquire a QB capable of running an offense againt a big league defense. Now he is stuck with our generation's Billy Kilmer as his starter. The Cowboys, the Eagles and, indeed, the Boo-Birds are likely to feast on his liver this season. Defenses are all going to put 8 in the box, stuff the run, and see Brunell one hoppping all his passes to receivers coming back from their routes to try and rescue his sorry butt. What did Ray Lewis say about our offense last season (MB at the helm)? "Time to go huntin'!... Cause they got nothing! NOTHING!!!"

Coach:logo:

Being a long time skins fan through thick and thin i am, and have been excited upon your return!! my question is !!due to all of the changes that the league has gone through since you took your leave of absence.(free agency,as well as how rules and such have changed!!) How do you determine who is in fact a core redskin player when in fact alot has to do with $$$ I see a redskin as a player who gives himself body and soul to become a unit and work as one. Playing for one of the greatest coaches and francises on Gods green earth. Am i wrong to think this way? is it a team or are we thinking as individuals?? as far as the QB fiasco the right man will step up and take this fantastic bunch to where we need to be!! Starting in Dallas.

Love and RESPECT

Skinfomaniac

:dallasuck P.S kick the crap out of Dallas PLEASE!!!!

Coach Gibbs,

The media and fans have made much of the fact that you named Patrick Ramsey the starter going into this season. Can you go into more detail on how this was defined between yourself and Ramsey, and whether he was lead to believe he would have relatively the same amount of time to perform as did Brunell last year or if he was aware he was on such a short leash? If you could go back in time, would you define the situation differently to him and/or the media and fans? Thanks!

Coach Gibbs, please don't let any fan talk get you down. The majority of us fans support you 100% and greatly appreciate you coming back to coach us. Two quick questions for you if I may:

- You stated that one of the reasons that you came back was to help Coy get into coaching. How do you feel that his development has come along? Are you pleased with his coaching skills?

- Also, you've coached Tony Stewart in NASCAR, who is quite a character. Is there anybody on the Redskins team that somewhat stands out like him? I don't mean in any negative sense, but somebody in the locker room who perpetually has you laughing, etc....

Coach Gibbs,

As a long time fan who was actually there for two of the three SuperBowl wins (Sorry, was kinda busy in Kuwait for the 91 game) I want to thank you for all that you hjave done for the team in the past.

But as for the present, Im just curious. Since it seemed rather obvious from day one that you have had almost zero faith or trust in Patrick Ramsey, why keep him around?? More to the point, why keep him around and string him along as if he really had a shot at all of being the QB for this team?? You have stated many times you have confidence in Mark Brunell's abilities, but I cant think of a single time I have ever heard you actually even pay Ramsey so much as a compliment. I guess what Im saying is, since you have made it apparent you dont like or want Ramsey as your QB, why keep him around at all??

Coach Gibbs,

I believe you made the right call to start Mark on Monday. I never like hearing a QB saying that he wants to play when he is really hurt. Patrick has a neck injury and I believe it is in everyone's best interest to rest him a week (especially his). True, he could lose his starting job for good if Mark plays well, but that's life ... we're here to win games. Fourteen games remain and he has to be ready to get back on the field and be productive when he is needed. How serious is his injury? I don't like hearing the "trade talk" ... that's not being a team player at Week 2.

Look forward to reading your comment and thanks for being our Coach!

Jeff

Coach Gibbs,

As a die-hard fan, your decision to bench Ramsey is sucking the passion out of my love for this team. Why is it so hard for the Redskins to find a young QB and stick with him through thick and thin? I would rather see us have a losing season with a young QB that is progressing than a mediocre season with no stability at the position. How does Brunell represent the future of this franchise? If Campbell is the future, let's play him. Maybe he'll be the next Ben Roth...... of Pittsburgh.

David from San Diego.

Coach Gibbs: I played soccer throughout college and coached at the highest level of youth soccer in Georgia for 10 years. I am a lifelong Skins fan and viewed you as a coaching idol for the way you treated players during your first tenure.

My question is simple: You are a coach who has staked your credibility and reputation with your players on your word being your bond; how can you look any of your players in the eye at practice this week or Monday night in Dallas after benching Patrick Ramsey?

As a fan and coach, I can personally tell you that I have never been so disappointed in a professional coach. That decision runs contrary to everything I thought you stood for. It's a sad week in Redskins nation and Monday is going to be very, very ugly.

Coach, I met you once at Lowes Motor Speedway that was one of the best days of my life. I think I speak for most if not all Skins fans when I say you are the our hero.

My question is, as I am sure alot of other people are asking, what did you see that caused you to go with Mark over Patrick now. I was feeling that Patrick wasn't given a fair chance and that he has a stronger arm for the big play and a lot of heart and toughness.

Thank you sir,

Hi Coach, I have hit Earnest Byner in practice before and he was really something special. Do you think that the players of today are less likely to "sell out" because of the multi-million $ contracts and the fear of being hurt ? Do you think that the quality of football has declined over the last 15 years even though the players are stronger and the rules have become more protective? Does it seem that they get hurt easier ? Do you have to do every post game interview ? You seem stressed and sometimes exhausted why not let someone else handle some of the media pressure. Finially, we gotta have Dallas this week lets call up Dexter !!

Coach,

I'm a life-long fan of the Redskins and I appreciate you taking the time during Dallas week to answer a few questions. My question is this: Last year, when you named Patrick Ramsey as the starter, you said that Mark Brunell still had a lot of football left to play with the Redskins. Would you make the same statement now about Patrick Ramsey?

Go Skins! :dallasuck

Coach Gibbs:

The play I dread the most is a play we run 3 or 4 times every game: Rocket Screen, or the Quick Out, or Flanker Screen as it is sometimes called. Why is this play still being used? It doesn't seem to fool anybody, and it seems that it would be so easy for a cornerback to jump in there and take it all the way back for an easy touchdown.

Thanks for all your efforts on behalf of the greatest NFL team ever!

Coach, Congradulations on another season opening win.

I have said many times in chat forums that you will get this organization back to where it was when you left it.It has been hard watching it being run into the dirt for over a decade.Have you/Bugel found a Don Warren type of TE yet?I mean one that can be called a Dirtbag?I have taken some heat in some forums for pointing out how very important a role he had in helping make your offense work.I believe he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, but there are no stats to show how important a role he contributed to help make the offense run smoothly.

Good luck against the most disgusting team in the world on Monday Night.

Wishing you, your family and our Washington Redskins well.

Coach,

In each of your stints with the Redskins you were essentially given someone elses team. In your first stint how long did it take for you to assemble the team that you felt was going to be the most successfull given your offensive and defensive strategies? How close do you feel the team you have now is to being successful (playoff, superbowl) given your current offensive and defensive strategies?

(Follow up or maybe talk about this in the answer to the questions above)

How has the change in your offensive and defensive strategies altered the manner in which you assemble your team?

Thanks for your time Coach. BEAT DALLAS!!

Hi Coach Gibbs,

First of all, just wanted to say how I am so pleased as a Skins fan you are back in D.C.. Your first time around was a memorable time for me and I want to thank you for all the great years. You are a big reason why I chose to be a Skins fan years ago.

My question is: What determining factor would it take for a rookie QB like Jason Campbell to become a starter for this years Skins?

Coach Gibbs,

Please help me understand this move at QB. I know Ramsey turnovers are a problem but isn't our defense able to withstand a mistake or 2? Ramsey wasn't even given a chance this year, how can you expect him to have any confidence in himself or in your word?

thanks for your time.
