skinshog
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/1934057 Hope this wasn't posted already. Redskins should go with rookie QB now Story Tools: Print Email XML Terry Bradshaw / FOX Sports Posted: 1 day ago Here's the thing if you are a Washington Redskins fan. I've seen Patrick Ramsey and Mark Brunell. And I know they are good people and that Ramsey hurt his neck on Sunday against the Bears. But doggone, there comes a time when you make a change at quarterback. Coach Joe Gibbs made Jason Campbell a first-round draft pick. I watched Campbell play a lot at Auburn. I think he's a gamer and he throws very well. I mean, Campbell can go 6-for-11 passing if that's what Gibbs' plan is for his offense. Those were Ramsey's stats. I would be playing him. If he's worthy of being a first-round pick, then you must think he has some talent. I'd just put him in there. I swear I would. I simply don't see anything great from Washington's other two quarterbacks. I don't see any difference-makers at quarterback. Why not start the rookie? Let's be honest, the Redskins are going to run Clinton Portis (121 yards vs. the Bears) anyway. That's their offense right now. Joe Ferguson started in Buffalo in the 1970s when they had an offensive line called the Electric Company with a runner like O.J. Simpson. All Ferguson did was simply manage the ship. He didn't do anything spectacular in the beginning, but he got all that experience. They are going to run the football. You don't need Peyton Manning back there from what the Redskins are trying to do on offense. I'm waiting for the Joe Gibbs offense that I loved more than 15 years ago. I know Gibbs still has it. I'm not one of those people saying the game or time has passed Joe by. He's too smart for that. I just don't think he has the people to pull the trigger. That's what it appears like. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I feel. Believe me, I think any coach can tell when a guy has "it." You know what, we've been waiting for "it" to pop up for awhile. Maybe Campbell has "it." I loved him in college. So why doesn't Joe find out? You never know. The Redskins' quarterback could be sitting on the sideline right now.

zoony
playing Jason Campbell at this point, although I think he IS the future, is simply writing off this season. I'm not ready to do that, and neither is Joe. In no way do we see Campbell this year except if we are mathemeatically eliminated from playoff contention. TD_washingtonredskins
I think it could stunt his growth. As much as people would love for him to be the next Big Ben, I think Gibbs values a little time on the bench to learn before being thrown right in. We don't need a throwing gamer.
redskin56
Unfortunately I think that playing Campbell now is the right thing to do. Face facts, Gibbs has zero confidence in Ramsey, this is painfully obvious now. Ramsey will NEVER be able to play for Washington with any degree of consistency again. Any confidence he may have had is now completely GONE! Even if Brunell goes down, Ramsey will be only a backup. He will never regain the starting job. Its unfortunate because I have always loved Ramsey. I wish he would have righted the ship and instilled confidence in Gibbs. For whatever reason this simply did not materialize. Brunell will never take us deep into the playoffs and win a superbowl. Maybe four, five, six years ago, but not today. He just doesn't have the armstrength any more. He isn't hitting Jimmy Smith or Keenan McCardle in Jax any longer. So where does that leave us? With a very serviceable backup starting with the air apparent sitting on the bench behind a beleaguered starter who will be off of the roster sooner rather than later. What if Brunell goes down. Does Patrick come off the bench to lead us to victory? I just think that at this stage and with all that has happened to Patrick here in Washington this is simply a fariy tale. With no offense meant to Patrick, because I for one would certainly never think bad about him for doing so, Patrick will mail it in. There is nothing left for him to fight for in D.C. He won't want to play here and will not be able to play here. That leaves us with one stinging choice. Play the first round draft pick that Gibbs spent two first round picks on. The rookie will only get to learn how to play if he plays. Gone are the days where you stash your future superbowl MVP on the practice squad for two years. If you're going to start Brunell and sweep Patrick under the rug, you might as well get the rookie some experience and go as far as he'll take you. Realistically, does anyone thing that Brunell is going to manufacture 2, 3, or 4 more wins than Campbell would? Campbell may loose a game with bad decisions and turnovers, but your facing the same spector in Brunell (and apparently in Gibbs' mind with Patrick). Brunell is not the answer at QB. I truly thought and hoped Ramsey was. I still believe that some team somewhere will find their franchise QB in Patrick. Unfortunately for us, it will never be in Washington. At the end of the day, and at the end of the season, one stinging question will remain. We have improved our running game, defense, offensive line play and hopefully, special teams, but the one thing that kept us from progessing was the play from the QB. Shouldn't we answer that question before game 2 and let the future play its way to us, instead of us playing toward the future? What happens when Campbell is pronounced "ready" to play. Is Portis now too old or lost a step? What about the key free agents that we will inevitably loose during the next two years? Face facts, the future is now. Campbell should be playing now, for better or for worse, because that is the direction that the leader of this team has elected to travel. You can't put the Genie back into the bottle folks. Ramsey is done here and Brunell will never take us as far as we all want and desire this team to go.
