pez
Ok enough of the hatethreads/what if threads! What I want to know is, how does this change our offense? I notice when brunell is in that we emphasize running more and less big play long balls. What are your takes?
OVCChairman
well i think we should emphasize rushing no matter what. We have an awesome backfield and our O-line blocks for them with precision. I think this actually might open things up because you know the Cowboys have this game circled, and they have since the schedule got released, but they have been preparing to face a Right handed QB. not only that but brunell is somewhat mobile and can avoid the blitz and take advantage of it. Ramsey was strictly a pocket passer. This could be good, if nothing else, just because its a different arm behind the center.
nonniey
Well if it is anything like last year it will mean more defensive TDs by the opposing team. I know everyone complains about Ramsey's turnovers but Brunnel was even worse last year.
topdog
The running game will suffer because 8 men in the box because no down field threat.

Pete
Ok enough of the hatethreads/what if threads! What I want to know is, how does this change our offense? I notice when brunell is in that we emphasize running more and less big play long balls. What are your takes? I actually think you hit it right on the head. We won't see the long ball until Mark proves he can make those throws in practice, and then on the field. He had one long throw Sunday, which was a pick (imagin that) and thankfully we got a PI call on it. It wasn't tryed again after that. He also is said to got through his check downs of recievers very well, but it looks like he's scared to get hit, and stand in long enough to let recievers get down field, so we get the quick outs. What we get is a normal ammount of running, which is going to be some hard gained yards until Mark proves he can deliver the ball down field. The box will be stacked on a regular bassis with teams knowing Mark can no longer beat teams with his arm. It all comes down to stretching the field. If Mark can regain that part of his game, and his arm holds up, we'll be in good shape. What scares me is, we only saw one long attempt in a little under three quaters. Don't know what plays were called, but the safe way was taken every time. Gibbs gets crazy over turnovers, and Mark will protect the ball very well in the passing game. Will being ultra safe win games..................I sure hope so. Two fumbles and a pick, and losing the game is unacceptable. Opps that was McNabb last night......................we squeeked by and won our game. Expect to squeek by in what wins we get this season till Mark gets the ball down field. I feel this way being he hasn't shown us that he can yet. If indeed he can, then this post is a moot point.
REDKORN
We now have a left handed QB, who can run if he needs. Just beat Dallas whoever is inthere!

Yeah I am actually concerned about that aspect as well.. I now Brunell seems to be healthier and seems to be throwing better, but if you noticed passing yardage went down considerably when he went out there for the rest of the game
drkewl
No one is mentioning the fact that the Bears were playing 2 deep coverage the ENTIRE game. We could NOT go deep on them for that reason.. you would only understand that if you were at the game. the deep ball will come, but gibbs won't force it like preseason if dallas stacks the line, that will be the test to see whether we can throw it
xtinct
Was every team playing 2 deep last year when Brunell was back there? Brunell is immobile and I agree he appears scared to get hit. I can honestly say with the change of qb my expectations for this season has dropped considerably.

People just don't realize how different these two defenses are. Look what SD did to Dallas when Brees had time to go down field. They do have trouble covering the medium stuff and thats where Brunell excels. Also as good as LT is Portis is faster and I think he will be able to run better against them than LT. JMHO. Don't forget they still have two rookies in D starting for them and Ware was caught out several times. Now our D I don't particularly worry about. Still can't figure out why SD didn't blitz more. Watch for more exotic packages from Gregg Williams as the game goes on. Perdiction? Drew is goes down at least 5 times. The only reason SD lost was because they didn't presure him. TD_washingtonredskins
The big change will most likely be more punting! Yeah, instead of INTs and fumbles. As for downfield passing...I seem to recall plenty of them called this preseason. In addition, Brunell took a shot on Sunday, Ramsey did not.
