topdog Posted September 12, 2005 Share Posted September 12, 2005 !st of all I have been and will be a Redskin fan.But somethings that happen in life are just not right.You have the christian and honorable coach Joe Gibbs announcing at the end of last season Patrick Ramsey was his starting QB after his performance at season end.Ok it could have been early to name starter but I think he was trying to relate to Patrick that he had confidence in him as a starting QB.Coach Gibbs keep relating that all the way through spring training,mini camp and preseason even though he did draft a QB in 1st round.My question is or better my bewilderment is what happened in the 1st quarter of the 1st game of the season that changed all that.Is coach Gibbs not a man of his word and atleast give him a chance at being the starter.No matter what if the Redskins win or lose on this deal Coach Gibbs has lost alot of his honor.He made the statement last year that he was halfway there to ruining his good name.Congratulation Coach Gibbs you are all the way there.Some of you can get pissed at me if you want but you can go back and look and this is the 1st negative post I have ever posted about this team or it's coaches.It's a disappointed day being a Redskin fan for alot of reasons.Hopefully coach Gibbs has a little decency left in him for Patrick and grant him a trade. :mad: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

And actually, I wouldnt put it past Ramsey to not only ask, but DEMAND a trade and he will get it cuz we already have a bad enough reputation around the league and this is only making it worse. I assumed he was a man of his word, I guess not. He gives a washed up old quarterback a better chance than an up and coming quarterback... bulldog Posted September 12, 2005 Share Posted September 12, 2005 Gibbs won't lose face with the players if in fact as Brian Mitchell and Sonny Jurgensen indicated, Mark Brunell has been the better qb since the May minicamps at some point the better football player has to play. youth and potential aside, to be successful in the NFL you can't continue to throw picks in the first 10 minutes of a game. remember Joe Theismann 1982-1984? you could count on your fingers the number of picks he had. Ramsey is just out of control. He completes a 25 yarder and instead of following that up with another nice throw and building on his success, ends up with a INT or a fumble off yet another blindside hit The Redskins can't beat teams over .500 if they turn the ball over 3 times each game. It's that simple. Ramsey doesn't protect the ball. Brown doesn't protect the ball. How many turnovers does it take before you would have Gibbs "betray" the other 51 players on a team? 2) Even when Brunell was stinkin' up the joint last year, he didn't turn the ball over much. 3) Ramsey only kept the job last year because he was playing smart. If he gets back in and plays smart again, he'll most likely keep the job, as he has more upside and his contract is reasonable. It's silly to suggest that Gibbs had some sort of "plan" to switch QBs. No coach in his right mind would invest that much of Mini- and Training-Camp on a starter if he didn't intend for him to start. We have a tough schedule and we're in Dallas next week. He went out on a limb and signed Brunnell so I think he has to make that work. You just can't sit that much money on the bench especially when it's replacement is so inept. Joe Gibbs, regardless of his accomplishments in the past or in the present, is a professional football coach. He, NOT YOU or ANYONE ELSE was ASKED to come back and give this organization a chance at being competitive again. If he feels in his gut (a gut that has coached more professional football games than you've watched) that he's got to make a move at the QB position it certainly has nothing to do with "honor." What about "honoring" his commitment to the team? Even if Brunell falls on his face again Joe has got to go with his gut. What if he does your "honorable" thing and stays with Patrick and Patrick ends up going 0-4? Would you ask this board if Joe gibbs had lost all sanity? I'm comin' at ya hard and I apologize, but the word "honor" seems inappropriate and it WAS in your title. Joe hasn't lost anything yet. Least of all a GAME in the new season. (Next week may be a different story, what with the Curse of the Bambino Laufenberg and all...) but for now he's got a win under Mark and wants to take the most experienced QB into Texas. I figure neither redskin QB can win this one, so I'm willing to sit back and slowly fall to tears as usual. What does Gibbs owe Ramsey? Is he paid to play Ramsey, or is he paid to try to win football games? Is his JOB to be a nice guy to the QB, or to win games? Any coach worth anything in this league knows that some players need a little time to settle down in a game. Ramsey has still not had that time even once this season. Ramsey had one very poor throw that was an int, and one fumble that every damn QB in the league would have dropped( should have been a penalty also thus negating the fumble). Is this Game Changing? NO! He deserves at the least the chance to play a full game at QB. He is owed that much for all he went through to learn this sytem and change the way he plays the game. It really is that simple. By asking for this trade, he's telling me that as a quarterback and a leader he's not holding himself accountable for the mistakes he's made on this football team The fact is: the kid makes mistakes, tons of them, ones that cost games. I think this is possibly a ploy by Ramsey's agent to save his client's career (though im sure they mean what they're asking for). By asking for this trade, however, he's basically saying to the league, "this team's on crack, i'm good, i can play elsewhere" thus enticing another team to take a chance on him based his own idea of his ability. On the reverse, if he doesn't make waves over this benching other teams wiould likely think "wow, even Patrick thinks he shouldn't start, guess he's not too confident in his ability" Thus, they'll be less interest and less money when his rookie contract ends. Of course, the tape tells the real story, and from what i see, Ramsey again hasn't held up to his responsibilities as this team's quarterback, namely protecting the ball, protecting the ball, and consistently hitting open recievers. So before you howl at Gibbs, remember, A. Ramsey's hasn't fulfilled his obligations as stated above and B. he's asking for the trade, not Gibbs. I call questioning our coach's HONOR because you don't agree with his decision on who to start as the act of a fair weather fan. I call saying it is a disappointing day to be a Redskin fan because you don't like his choice of a starter the act of a fair weather fan. But much more than that, I consider most of the other much more hostile posts by some others on here to be offensive to any true Redskin fan. I sat in the stands and watched Kilmer play when a MUCH MUCH better QB, Sonny, sat on the bench. I disagreed with the coaches, but never even dreamed of this kind of crap. I sat and cheered for Billy for all I was worth. In 35 years of going to Redskin games, I never booed OUR team for any reason. I bet most of these hostile posters can not say that.
