koodu
I have two observations from yesterdays game and was wondering what everybody else thought. (1) If the refs thought the Cooley touchdown was offensive pass interference, then they must not of seen Sean Taylor receive illegal contact on his Qick Slant on the same play. If you look at the replay you can clearly see that the Bear's DB impeded Sean's progress on the play. (2) What the heck is Gibbs thinking by not doing for it on 4th and goal from the 1, with the defense that we have kowing that the Bears most likely would not have gone anywhere if we didn't score. We beat the Bears with field goals but I can guarantee you that field goals are not going to beat many more teams even with our defense.
arkowi
What the heck is Gibbs thinking by not doing for it on 4th and goal from the 1. Um...maybe that he will easily pick up the points that decided the outcome of the game...just a guess.

Thinking that we better get some points while we're down there. And that we wouldn't need many points to beat the Bears.

With the way Chicago's D-Line was playing I think he made the right decision.
QBkilla56
Hmm just imagine if we went for it on 4th and one and botched it. Hmmm who would have won? Da Bears.
TD_washingtonredskins
You HAVE to kick if a FG puts you in the lead...
DialSux
yeah....9-7 dude. c'mon. i was ****ing at gibbs at the time, but do you really have to ask after the game?
matty dread
Gibbs obviously doesn't play enough Madden. 4th and goal at the 1, who kicks the FG!? In fact, 4th and anything... who needs a punter, just go for it!
koodu
Well, I didn't think everyone was going to criticize/slam me regarding not going for it on 4th and 1 form the one. First of all I'm as big a skins fan as anyone here and I'll stand by my statement that field goals will not beat most of the teams we play. In that sitaution a touchdown would have given us a commanding lead, at least against the Bears. Yes we could have "botched" it but you'll have a hard time convencing me that the Bears could get into scoring postion form our 1 yard line. Yes if we were playing a team that actually had an offense then maybe settling for a field goal is the correct thing to do. Not the case with the Bears. Om
I don't suspect Gibbs figured that a FG, with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter, was going to be the last scoring he was going to get in that game. In his first incarnation, Gibbs made a living taking what was there and not leaving points on the field, especially against good defenses. He's building it the same way this time. Not flashy, not gambling, not ESPN hightlight stuff---just methodical, conservative, wear them down WINNING football.

E-Dog Night
Hmmm. When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be about the general inability of the Redskins to punch it in for 7 when they get inside the 25. It happened many times last year, it happened in preseason, and it happened three times yesterday. We had a first and goal twice yesterday and came away with 3 total points from both possessions. That's awful. I don't know if stats are kept on that sort of thing, but I think if you looked at all the Redskins games, preseason and regular season, that have been played in the last 4-5 years, the Redskins would have to be near the bottom, if not dead last.
